Philips Showcases Imaging 2.0 and Unveils MediTech Service Solution at UKRC 2011

June 6, 2011

Manchester, United Kingdom – Today at the UK Radiology Congress (UKRC, 6-8 June 2011), Philips Healthcare launched MediTech - a Technology Partnership Programme –providing an alternative solution for equipment provision, installation and maintenance.

MediTech is a revenue-based model and is an alternative to Capex, with fixed unitary payments for predictability and budgeting. It is flexible and tailored round clinical requirements allowing purchasers to build in the options they require. Other benefits include guaranteed service availability, the opportunity for reimbursement of VAT (as an outsourced service), and mitigation of the risks associated with equipment management to Philips, including regulatory requirements, technology obsolescence and residual values.

John Atwill, Managing Director, Philips Healthcare UK and Ireland, said: “Whilst capital expenditure budgets are being tightened, equipment replacement remains a necessity in line with clinical demands. Philips is pleased to be able to offer MediTech, a bespoke agreement designed around clinical and budgetary requirements which provides the supply of imaging equipment within a service agreement for a defined period of time. A MediTech partnership with Philips ensures access to the latest technology whilst avoiding expenditure surges and freeing up hospital time to focus on patients.”

Philips is also showcasing Imaging 2.0, a concept fuelled by the integration of technology, clinician and patient which redefines the way people connect, share and use the internet and represents a new world of possibilities for radiology.

Mike Hayden, Sales Director, Imaging Systems for Philips UK and Ireland said: “Imaging 2.0 is the first medical networking platform which allows the radiologist to integrate information from various sources-for example, CT, MRI and PET scans to make a confident diagnosis and discuss it with all the clinical partners on the case - putting the radiologist at the centre of clinical decision-making. The result is more efficient workflow, cost efficiencies, and greater patient focus.”

New product introductions at UKRC showcase pioneering, innovative and cost-effective solutions for radiology

  • MobileDiagnost wDR: MobileDiagnost wDR is designed to offer the superb quality and efficiency of a Philips’ premium digital radiography suite packed into a flexible mobile X-ray system. It has been developed with the same wireless portable detector, Eleva user interface and image processing that are already successfully in use with Philips DigitalDiagnost at thousands of customer sites worldwide. By bringing those components and features together into a mobile system, Philips MobileDiagnost wDR is designed for the demanding requirements of diverse applications.

  • Innovations of Ingenuity CT with iDose4: A CT injector and console allows the user to significantly reduce the radiation dose involved in all types of CT examinations without compromising clinical details. The iDose4 has been developed to effectively reduce applied patient dose without compromising image quality or reconstruction speeds. The Innovations of Ingenuity CT allows users to dial in the desired image quality providing up to 68% improvement in spatial resolution whilst maintaing applied patient dose. Alternatively up to 80% less dose can be given to the patient, whilst maintaining image quality.
With the SyncRight option of Ingenuity CT up to 15% less injected contrast by ensuring an intelligent interface with the contrast delivery system and tailoring to the patient. This is results-driven scanning with improved patient flow, enabling the scanning up to 25% more patients a day.

  • MR Table with Trolley and coils from the Ingenia MR system: The Ingenia MR system is the first digital signal acquisition and processing directly in the RF receive coil nearest to the patient. By digitizing the signal directly in the RF receive coil and maintaining the digital connection throughout the entire MRI scanning process, Ingenia is able to generate up to a 40 percent improvement in signal-to-noise ratio. Improving signal-to-noise ratio enables the delivery of crisp image clarity that clinicians need to help make informed decisions possible for a wider range of clinical procedures, including traditional applications like neuro and musculoskeletal and fast-growing applications like body and cardiac. Ingenia is available in 1.5T and 3.0T versions to accommodate varied imaging needs.

  • IntelliSpace Portal: A new multimodality, multivendor workstation that, for the first time, uses advanced networking capabilities to facilitate collaboration between radiologists and referring clinicians anytime, anywhere no matter the modality or vendor, ultimately helping to speed clinical diagnosis. It is based on the Extended Brilliance Workspace which was ranked #1 by KLAS in its 2008 and 2010 “Top 20 Best in KLAS Awards: Software & Professional Services” for Advanced Visualization. KLAS, an independent research firm specializing in monitoring and reporting performance of healthcare information technology vendors, announced that the Philips Brilliance Workspace was the category leader in Advanced Visualization. The IntelliSpace Portal provides a multi-function workstation and networking capabilities that allows radiologists and referring clinicians to exchange data across differing work systems, improving communication and speeding up the diagnosis process for patients.

  • HI: PACS/RIS workstations: Philips’ Radiology IT portfolio helps hospitals interpret the growing universe of patient data.  By distilling the content into actionable care-specific information, a context is created that supports clinical decision-making anytime, anywhere.  Philips’ Radiology IT solutions complement EPR investments and easily interface into core hospital information systems, providing greater perspective and meaning to data held in any enterprise. Philips’ solutions help improve collaboration across the enterprise by rapidly delivering images and information, and extending the reach of advanced clinical tools.  These solutions are delivered with a comprehensive service model that guarantees access to the applications without hidden costs.

iSite PACS Workflow Layer Applications — Philips introduces a series of new Workflow Layer applications for its popular iSite PACs. The Workflow Layer complements iSite PACS’ image and information management capabilities with five applications that facilitate ACR and JCAHO compliance, enhances productivity, improves inter-departmental collaboration and enhances the delivery of patient care.

Philips now offers multi modality 3D viewing with the latest release of iSite PACS by having Volume Vision as standard. Volume Vision adds 3D hanging protocols, collaborative 3D workflow tools, 3D exam comparison, 3D measurements and segmentation tools

Additionally, Philips delivers an extensive suite of advanced CT applications.  iSite PACS products include the following option.: CT Cardiac Analysis, Cardiac Calcium Scoring, CT Advanced Brain Analysis, CT Lung Nodule Assessment and PET/CT Viewer,  CT Automated Vascular Analysis, CT Pulmonary Emboli Assessment. Performances of all advanced applications are boosted by automatic pre-processing.

Ultrasound: iU22, CX50, PercuNav: The Philips PercuNav system enables interventional radiologists to navigate tracked instruments to a region of interest when performing needle-based procedures using real-time ultrasound, previously acquired images, or a combination of these. PercuNav has been used clinically in biopsies, ablations and drainages. Diagnostic radiologists using PercuNav benefit from fused images to help clarify diagnosis. The system may also be paired with Philips iU22 xMATRIX ultrasound system for state-of-the-art ultrasound navigation. PercuNav is the only computer-assisted, image-guided diagnostic and interventional system for soft tissue  for all imaging modalities: ultrasound, CT, MR, rotational fluoroscopy (cone beam), and PET/CT.
