Flexibility in Creativity: Philips Introduces the Next Step in Led Lighting Design

May 4, 2010

London, UK – Philips today unveiled a breakthrough in home LED luminaires, offering groundbreaking new designs that traditional lighting solutions simply cannot match.

Use of LEDs frees luminaire designers from the need to accommodate lamps, opening up new possibilities for design. The luminaires launched today showcase what LED can do to deliver the ultimate in style and inspiration for the design-conscious. The LIRIO by Philips pendant CIELO, for example, is designed to look like a normal lamp shade, but has no lamp inside. The product is 60 cm, featuring 24 LEDs and is available in black, white and gold.

Iconic and adjustable – LivingColors in a new shape

Philips is adding a new shape to its LivingColors Generation 2 range. It comes in a new iconic design in various finishes. They allow users to instantly choose from 16 milion colors and clear white light, transforming the ambiance of rooms. Users can create up to three different lighting scenes which can be recalled at the push on an intuitive scene remote.

LivingColors  can be used individually or in combination with other LivingAmbiance products.  LivingColors Generation 2 features seven LEDs, has 50% stronger light intensity and the speed of the automatic color changing mode can be adjusted according to preference.

Not only are LED lights flexible in design but, with rising energy prices and greater awareness of the environmental impact of lighting, they also meet consumer demand for more energy efficient alternatives to traditional lighting. The long life of LED lighting also provides additional convenience by eliminating the need to manually replace bulbs.

Ashley Smith, Marketing Manager for Philips Consumer Lighting UK, said: “Consumers today are using lighting as a form of self-expression, and developments in LED technology enable breakthrough creativity in lighting design and ambiance creation. These are the ultimate luminaires, created in a multitude of shapes and designs that enables consumers to create and shape their personal space.”

New form factors have been established with Philips Ledino and Philips Arcitone.
Created around the latest integrated lighting technologies, like LED pucks or anti-glare LED disc, Ledino and Arcitone reach extreme thinness and elegance.

At Grand Designs, House of the Future, 2010, Philips will showcase a new feature: in addition to the new anti-glaring LED module, a new interface called gesture control will be introduced as a concept in the Arcitone collection, By just waving under the sensor the light will shine and can be dimmed. With this, Philips makes the next step in simply enhancing life with light.

Philips’ Novallure LED lamp is designed to be seen. Its performance is matched by a cool, streamlined styling. What makes the design of the LED candle innovative and different from other LEDs is the candle shape and its bright sparkling and ambient light effect. The combination of its candle shape, the used material and the light effect makes it a unique way to enhance and personalize the atmosphere at home, in a sustainable way. You can easy replace the old lamp with this LED lamp, as it matches existing candle lamp fixtures and save energy from the first day onwards.
