Philips Healthcare to sponsor Brighton Marathon medics in 2015 race
London, UK – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG; AEX: PHIA) With the marathon season now in full swing, this weekend will see 10,500 keen runners pushing their athletic abilities to the maximum as they participate in the 2015 Brighton Marathon. And ensuring the runners’ safety every step of the way will be a team of volunteer medics sponsored by Philips Healthcare.
“Marathons are enormous tests of physical strength and mental willpower, so many of the health care professionals at Brighton’s Brighton and Sussex university hospitals, NHS Trust and other local and regional NHS organisations will again be volunteering their time to support the runners in this year’s race,” explained David Bowen, Deputy Director of Medical Services. Medical requests vary from a need for water to a need for more serious treatment - our role is integral to both safeguarding participants’ health and ensuring the event runs smoothly.”
As well as providing the volunteer medics with kit and other general support, Philips Healthcare will also provide the medical team with access to the Philips MRx defibrillator and IntelliVue monitors ensuring they’re ready to respond to even the most serious eventuality.
Dr Robert Galloway, an A&E consultant from the hospital and the race Medical Director said, “Having the safety net of trained medical experts close by as well as access to some of the latest healthcare technology is key; it ensures that all the runners have to worry about is finishing the race.”
Mark Leftwich, Marketing Director at Philips Healthcare UK&I said; “We’re really proud to be involved with the Brighton Marathon this year, an event that not only helps to raise money for some great causes but also brings the community together; whether as runners, spectators, volunteers or as part of the medical team.
