Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow!! Didn't believe until I tried it !! This iron is fab!! Cuts through creases like a knife through butter , was a bit sceptical at reviews at first but I'm so glad I bought this so nice not having to worry about changing the temperature control and to go from ironing linen to delicates straight away is great. I can even iron over my sons rubberised printed t shirts with no sticking or smudging!! . I can't stop telling my friends and family how good this iron is you will not be disappointed if you buy this . I will not go back to a normal steam iron again . Thank you Phillips

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hassle free ironing As a conscientious parent I embrace the task of ensuring my children are well turned out for school as crease free and clean as can possibly be. My fulfilment of this role inevitably takes place each Sunday evening, requiring me to dunk each child in the bath whilst lathering profusely, followed by several hours propped up against the ironing board aiming to increase the area of smooth on each item of grey and white material placed in front of me. The latter of these activities can be hazardous, in particular to a committed member (me) of the PTA (Pub Therapy Awareness), membership to which can lead to exhaustion and deterioration in concentration the day (or two it seems) after ‘meeting’. Consequently when undertaking the aforementioned it is notable that the materialisation of superficial burns (to self and clothing) ruddy great big melted holes (to self and clothing) and an accompaniment of a stream of language so blue I could decorate with it are accepted (if very poorly managed) risks. It is to my great pleasure that I can document these things are in the past, no my children cannot iron their own uniforms yet nor have I decided to seek help for a possible alcohol related dependency – but since I became the proud owner of my Philips Easy Care Iron (and enormous but extremely practical Ironing Board) I can put the trauma & cost (replacement school uniform and taxis to A&E mostly) of my Sunday evening deeds behind me. The self controlling temperature means my momentary lapses of concentration result no more in smouldering of uniform or gaping holes in my poly-cotton blends. The iron's safety lock prevents my sometimes unexpected loss of balance (possibly due to narcolepsy or more than likely over enthusiastic consumption of hair of the dog) from sending a 180 degree metal cosh careering towards me and my numerous appendages (alas in the past the over-riding urge to grab at a falling object was never impacted) and there has not been one incident of my breath igniting (though I cannot find anything in the instructions that could account for this, I had swapped my regular brandy for cider, make your own judgement). I love this iron. My husband loves this iron. My sister loves the iron but admits that she has less to talk about with her work colleagues on a Monday morning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So simple even a man can use it.... Have just used this for the first time and was very surprised at ease and results being a bloke always use to end up with few creases but even after first go not a single one, like the fact can leave face down on clothes for few minutes with o burn marks, fill with water and away u go and used in conjunction with the super 8 ironing board which is perfect alongside iron your pile of ironing will soon disappear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Safe & easy ironing. The 'OptimalTemp' feature is fantastic, no waiting around for the correct temperature & no fear of burning the laundry whatever the fabric. Fast heat up & very easy to use. The water tank is removeable & once filled will last for around two hours of ironing & the iron locks onto the base making it safe & easy to carry around. Very pleased with my Philips GC9230 & would happily recommend it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Expensive with flaws The good points: - it does iron the clothes well The bad: - it's expensive - mine lasted 2 years if that before it stopped producing steam - it often leaks hot water When it works, the clothes are ironed nicely. Sadly for an expensive iron to break so quickly and to often leak water is very disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Move over Downey Jnr, there’s a new Iron Man in town! Dusty carpets, dirty dishes, muddy cars… every household has its fair share of chores. Boring, repetitive, monotonous activities that ‘have’ to be done, rather than ‘want’ to be done. Ironing is another. Be it a daily, weekly or on-demand routine, the thought of constantly fiddling with the temperature setting, or pausing to refill the water reservoir every so often, may be enough to make some people contemplate packing the iron away and simply go out sporting the creased look. Well, the Philips PerfectCare GC9230 will change this, for life. Ironing is sooo easy with this device. Setup is simple – fill the water reservoir, switch on, wait for the light to stay lit and that’s it. If like us you have the matching Philips ironing board, the unit fits perfectly at the side. Notice in the setup I didn’t mention setting the temperature? That’s Philips Optimal Temperature Technology for you – the iron automatically adjusts its temperature depending on the fabric being ironed. This is the first iron I have used that incorporates such a clever feature, and I must admit a little initial apprehension whilst trying it out. However I can wholeheartedly confirm that this is a brilliant piece of technology. You need never worry about burning anything again, and you can iron your clothing in any order you like. Another feature is its consistent steam output; something I didn’t think was particularly noteworthy at first. That was until I realised that the iron produces constant steam, regardless of its temperature. If like me, you have used irons where water leaked out after changing the temperature / steam setting, those days are gone. The Philips does-not-leak. Ergonomically, the iron is comfortable in the hand. Its glide across any fabric is super smooth, and unlike other irons, its weight is constant, as the water reservoir is remote. The base-stand looks and feels large, but incorporates (in addition to the good sized water reservoir) 2 storage compartments for the flexes, a stand including a lock to secure the iron, an outlet for cleaning/de-calc ., and a power switch/display panel. If left alone for 10 minutes, the unit goes into stand-by mode. After using regular irons for years, the PerfectCare GC9230 steam generator is a revelation. I can’t ever see me going back. This is a great product, and comes very highly recommended. Philips provides a 2-year guarantee with the PerfectCare GC9230, testament to its build quality. Buy it - you won’t regret it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Effortless Ironing is effortless and so much quicker than before. The lack of having to wait for temperature change between garments is brilliant and the soleplate is great too.Overall a five star product. Only downside was having to replace the ironing board for a mesh type to enable the steam to penetrate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing I have always been put off buying a steam generated iron due the sheer size but i can honestly say that i wish i had years ago. The ironing of a shirt was effortless and i got through twice as much as i usually would, in the time it took. I love it. Recommended by me 100%

Rated 5 out of 5 by from does everything it claims to do Love this iron it really does reduce time spent at the board and irons clothes much easier. Lives up to its description and does everything it claims to. Well worth spending the extra rather than going through cheap iron after iron and spending a fortune anyway!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best iron I ever had. A fantastic iron. I am in love with it. It zips through the ironing in a fraction of the time it takes with a normal iron. I don't even need to worry about the kids using it because it's impossible for them to melt anything onto the sole plate.
