Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic results in the privacy of your own home I have been using the Lumea Precision Plus for six weeks now, and I have to say the results have been great. I admit I was pretty sceptical - I've used so many various types of hair removal systems in the past, that I honestly don't think there is anything that I haven't tried - epilators, waxing, sugaring and good old fashioned shaving. I was also slightly apprehensive as I am of African origin, so therefore have dark skin - that said, I do know people with my skin colouring who have had IPL treatments in salons successfully, so nothing ventured, nothing gained - if it didn't work, I could always use it on my blond haired husband to keep his back hair-free!! But just to be on the safe side, I did do four patch tests on inconspicuous areas of my body, varying the light intensity to work out what was safe and comfortable for me. I've been using it above my upper lip, my chin and my underarms, as these were my main areas of concern. The hair on my face has virtually disappeared, whilst the growth in my underarms has been drastically reduced to the point where what would have been two days worth of stubble is what I'm getting after two weeks. I haven't done it on my legs yet, as to be honest, it seems like a marathon job, but my daughter and I have agreed that we will give each other a hand. The Lumea Precision Plus feels nice in your hand, and isn't too heavy. The only thing i dislike is the flash when you press the button, but I close my eyes, and problem solved. All-in-all, if you're looking for salon quality hair removal in the privacy of your own home, then this is a worthwhile and cost-effective solution.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from promising i have had the lumea for a month and have used it twice. i decided to start a comparison trial and to this end i have used it to treat the hair on one leg and under one arm. the instructions were a little long winded but the quick start guide soon saw me starting the task. areas to be treated need to be shaved 24hrs beforehand and it is important to select the right intensity level for your colouration. the explanation of the intensity levels was a bit complicated and i didn't really understand if 5 was high or low intensity, i would have liked more info on that. i decided that 3 would be right for me and started treating. underarm was quick and easy but doing the leg was a bit more fiddly, fortunately i had someone on hand to help and it took maybe 10 minutes to complete the lower leg. after treatment i had no issues with pain or skin irritation. i packed the unit away and then waited 2 weeks to do the next treatment, in the meantime i continued to shave my leg and underarms every few days as needed, i noticed that the treated side whilst not miraculously hair free all over did have a few areas which seemed to have less growth. i have now completed my second treatment and hope to see further hair reduction. i hope with perseverance that this product will deliver results and put an end to the need for razors forever.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Seems easy to use, though too soon to tell if it's effective. Beauty salon treatments designed to prevent hair regrowth seem to require quite a few sessions and therefore a commitment in terms of booking and attending multiple appointments, therefore the option of being able to do this at home is very attractive. The actual device is easy to handle and has an attractive sleek shape. The quick start guide made it very easy to get started and use for the first time. The instructions give an easy to follow guide to which of the five light intensities to use and indicate that if you experience any discomfort you can reduce the intensity. I have dark hair and pale skin so found that on my legs I had no problem using the level 5. Some of the bony areas around the knees and ankles are a bit awkward to get flat to the skin with the large head so I tried changing to the facial head which was much easier around these areas. I have not yet had time to judge the effectiveness of the product on the hair regrowth as it requires repeat treatments over the course of 8 weeks for maximum effectiveness, however first impressions and ease of use are favourable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A promising start As soon as I received my Lumea I had to try it out, after charging it up (and reading the instructions) I was raring to go and did my test flashes both under my ear (as I wanted to use this on my face as well) and on my thigh. Being fair skinned with dark hair I was trying levels 4 and 5, with 4 I felt nothing but with 5 I felt a tingle as I flashed. The next day there were no marks left by either flash but I am a wimp (I admit it) and so I used level 4 after a good shaving! It kind of seems like doing the job twice right now with having to shave before using the machine but I'm hopeful that in future I'll hardly have to shave at all and that will more than make up for it. So far I've not noticed any difference but it has only been 2 weeks, maybe I should get brave and try level 5 and see if that makes a difference if things dont change over the next 2 weeks. I really like that it's so easy to use, you cant really do it wrong as if it's not in contact with your skin in the right way, it wont flash, you just have to remember to shave and to mark (white eyeliner is a godsend - fabulous tip thank you!) a line where you're starting so you keep going and dont overlap your flashes. I'm really hopeful that this will bring an end to the constant rounds of shaving and give me totally pain free hairlessness!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Time to say goodbye to the salon and HELLO Philips Lumea IPL Precision Plus Well, after only a short term use all I can say is that my razor has been made redundant already. I have very dark hair and light skin and must say this product seems to work wonders. Having used this only twice I am extremely impressed with the ease of use and once you get the hang of it the Lumea Precision Plus glides over each area without hesitation providing continual bursts of IPL. I have used it on my legs, bikini area, underarms and chin and must say that none of these areas have needed any other care apart from my Lumea. At first the sensation of the Lumea Precision Plus was different to what I was expecting as the very short burst of IPL were somewhat over before I knew it. Yes, it is a little tingly but certainly not sore and that was at setting number 4, so much so that I instantly moved up to setting 5 and have managed this without feeling any pain - this is from someone with a moderate pain threshold. As a very hairy person my Lumea Precision Plus has become my new best friend FOREVER!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best hair removal product I have ever used This is my second review as I have now been using it for 8 weeks. I have very dark hair which grows very quickly so I have tried all the hair removal products going. I was fed up of shaving and waxing and had been considering buying a Philips Lumea but the price really put me off as I didn't know anyone who had tried one and it was a lot of money to risk. After finally getting one I can honestly say it is worth every single penny and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to dark haired women. It is so easy to use and completely pain-free. I have been using it on my underarms, face, legs and bikini line and not only is is quick to use the results are fantastic. There are no cuts on my skin or sticky wax and whilst my hair hasn't stopped growing completely yet there is a lot less and after a couple more uses I am confident that what hair is left will soon disappear. I am really impressed with it and wish I had tried it sooner as it saves me so much time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy and very effective. I was very sceptical that using the Lumea would result in me having to shave my legs less often. I have been very surprised at how effective the Lumea is. I have used it three times and have noticed that my hairs are growing a lot more slowly and in some places, they are not growing at all. I think after another couple of uses I will be 'fuzz' free. The Lumea is easy to use and after you get used to it you can easily do your lower legs in approx. 20 minutes. I have also used the Lumea on my underarms and experienced no discomfort. The only niggle I have with the Lumea, and it is a minor niggle, is that it is very easy to turn the unit off during use. For this reason I have awarded the Lumea four stars instead of five for ease of use. The Lumea may initailly appear to be expensive but when compared to other hair removal methods over time then the Lumea is well worth the price Ladies..go buy, you will not be disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best product I have ever bought Finally no more bikini rash - in growing hairs or that horrible unsexy hairy feeling. Brilliant elsewhere too - I have very strong, thick and fast growing hair - I now shave every couple of weeks - as opposed to daily and that's only because I run and have bare legs. Simply brilliant.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So easy - hoping for good results The Lumea is so easy to use, it's instinctive! You need to check if it's suitable for your hair & skin type (I.e doesn't work on red or white hair) before you decide to buy, but then it really is just a case of point & shoot! The settings are easy to adjust and the unit fits easily in your hand - the same weight & size as an average hairdryer. There is a smaller precision attachment for use on the face and sensitive areas, as well as the larger one for legs etc. One thing I have noticed is that the precision head can sometimes still be too large when using the Lumea on the top lip for example. The contours of the face can sometimes mean you can't get a good contact to be able to flash. It takes a little practice and patience (as well as some gurning!) but it can be done. A comforting green light on the back of the Lumea tells you when you achieve a good seal. It can be difficult to keep track of where you have treated when doing larger areas like the legs - the manual recommends using a white make-up pencil to draw lines as guides. There is a slight "jump factor" each time you press the trigger, as you can feel the heat generated by the intense light, as well as see the bright red flash. This is not painful though, just unusual. I can't wait to see the results the Lumea will give me...as someone who suffers from excessive facial hair in particular, it will change my life if it works, and I see no reason why it won't. Thank you Philips & Come Round for letting me discover Philips beauty products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great results after 2 months I have been using the lumea for almost 2 months now and must say it has been one of the best and painless methods of hair removal that i have ever come across. With repeated use hair growth has been virtually eliminated, this is most marked on people with slightly darker hair than me as I am quite fair.I have shared the lumea with friends on a rotational basis and we have all seen a marked reduction in hair growth,we will definately be keeping up with it,and saying good bye to waxing!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Need more time with product The product was easy to use. However, I would have felt better if it came with eye protection as the light flash was very bright! The cost seems very high as you can go have this done professionally for the same price. I know you can use the product on other areas so in the long run its cheaper, but its still too expensive for me.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Working but slowly... I've been using this on my armpits for almost 3 months now, every 2 weeks as instructed and on the highest setting as my hair is very dark and my skin is light. I have found it easy to use, with no problems even using it with my left hand to do my right armpit, and the gun design makes it easier to hold and use pretty much anywhere on the body that you'd need to. It's not too heavy either and the attachments are a good size for this area. As stated, it only takes me about 1 minute or so per armpit, so it's very easy to fit into my routine. The green light indicator is handy, and easy to see when using this in front of a mirror, even right under my arm. The flash is also very bright, so it's easy to tell when it's done. I have always shaved beforehand and washed away any deodorant first, as advised. I have not found using this to be painful for the most part. Sometimes it hurts a little, but it's more of a heat/burning sensation and only very briefly, so nothing to really concern me. Plus, after using it once, you know what to expect. It's a lot less painful than epilating or waxing, that's for sure! I did start to see the hair thinning after maybe 3 or 4 uses, and there is definitely less hair there now than when I began, but it's still not all gone and I'm not sure how many more treatments I will need for it to really look how I want. I am willing to persevere with it though, and have faith that it will continue to improve the appearance of my underarms eventually - hopefully in time for when I'll next be getting them out again in spring/summer! I might start using it on my legs soon too so they can be ready for next year. It's a shame it takes so long to really make a difference, but so long as people know that and start treatment early, hopefully it will deliver results. So I would advise people to start in autumn/winter the year before to prepare for the following summer. That sounds a bit odd, but I guess that's not so different to professional treatments, and it works better to do it in colder months in preparation as you can't use it before sunbathing or on recently tanned skin anyway. It's also a shame it can't be used on moles, but I guess that's just the way it is, and better safe than sorry! So, overall, I wish I could say that it has removed every trace of hair under my arms over these past 3 months, but I'm afraid that's not the case. It is noticeably better now but still a way to go. Hopefully persevering will eventually deliver the results I want.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good - if you have the right hair type The lumea comes with a big instruction booklet, and after having a read through it I found myself a little afraid as there are lots of dos and donts. I was especially surprised to find that the product only really works on dark hair, and also that the results are more semipermanent that permanent. The machine itself is very well designed. It's easy to operate, and treating a single leg takes about 15 to 20 minutes so its not too time consuming. I didn't feel the need to be particularly accurate while using it so I felt fine watching tv at the same time! After several sessions I've found that my leg hair is much less noticeable, and I expect the results to continue improving over time. I'm really thrilled as I think it will save me a lot of time and money over the years. I also expected the sensation of using the lumea to be unpleasant, but apart from the odd 'zap' there's nothing at all. I've only used it on my legs so far though so I can't speak for more sensitive areas. A word of warning - the device says that it's not suitable for blonde or red hair and this is certainly true. I lent my lumea to a blonde friend and she's had no luck with it whatsoever, so please make sure the products right for you before splashing out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth every penny I was very excited to try the Philips lumea, its a product I had been wanting to try. As a busy working mum hair removal is often a chore left until the last minute. A device that slows hair growth is any woman's dream. The instructions are quite a long read, but the product itself is very easy to use. You have to fully charge before use but this was fairly quick. The product is fairly lightweight and easy to hold, the laser is easy to trigger when holding and the 'ready' light lets you know when the product is in contact with the skin properly (it will only trigger when pressed against the skin, a great safely feature). After triggering the laser is almost instantly ready to trigger again. I enjoy using the lumea, I have used the product on my underarms and legs so far, obviously my underarms are more sensitive but it was not unpleasant in anyway. When the laser is triggered i felt a 'buzz' sensation. Not painful at all. One thing I did find was that areas that were not flat it took time to get skin contact to trigger the laser however the smaller attachment which is included makes contact easier on the underarms. I am looking forward to seeing the results of the lumea. Skin tone white Hair colour dark blond

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bye bye stubble rash As a quite hairy dark haired and pale skinned woman I have suffered for decades with stubble rash and ingrown hairs. My bikini line was always bumpy and red and due to daily shaving my armpits were always itchy. I gave up using an epilator because it was do painful and left me with masses of ingrown hairs. For my 50th burthday last year I treated myself to the Lumea. By the time I went on holiday 4 months later I was pretty much hair-free and completely bump-free. I felt fantasic in a bikini with my now smooth thighs. I noticed results after the frst couple of uses and now use the Lumea about once a month. I never have to shave my armpits in between but maybe still need to shave a few hairs ffom my legs but they are much less coarse then before. I use the Lumea on the highest setting without discomfort. Occasionally, in more sensitive areas, I experience the slight sting described in other reviews hut this is bearable compared to the pain of epilation - and I certainly wouldn't have used my epilator in all of the sensitive areas where I now use the Lumea. This product has definitely changed my life and I wish it had been around when I was younger.
