Rated 5 out of 5 by from Plastic Strip in Lid became brittle Great Kettle, have has this for a number of years - always reliable no issues barr the lid plastic becoming brittle. Totally disappointed - perfectly working kettle having to throw away due to poor design and component in lid.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Flimsy on-off switch broke The plastic edge of the illuminated on-off switch broke away, allowing the switch to separate into its component parts. It was hard to use in this condition, so we gave up and bought a replacement from another manufacturer. Useful life less than a year. I also scalded my thumb on several occasions due to steam escaping from the lid as I poured. The solution to this was to make sure I kept the tip of my thumb in contact with the handle.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Plastic strip on lid failure Like most of the other reviewers the plastic strip on the lid has suffered catastrophic failure rendering an otherwise working kettle totally useless. Is this a design fault or is it designed to fail? One reviewer wrote that Philips said it was not a common problem - I dispute this as most of the reviewers are reporting the same problem. No satisfactory answer from the manufacturer. As the plastic strip is totally surplus to requirements anyway I really do think that it is intended to fail and make you buy a new one - it seems to fail just outside the warranty period - coincidence?

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very good design but flimsy in parts Love the design and have enjoyed using the kettle for over 2 years. Particularly appreciate the convenience of use for an ambi-dexterous household. However as other reviewers have said, the decorative plastic on the lid began to harden and has now cracked and developed a hole. The filter has been flimsy and despite careful handling and maintenance, needed early replacement.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cracked lid I came on line to find Customer Care phone number and came across the many reviews with the same problem as me. I have a perfectly good kettle but the plastic strip on the lid has cracked so it is now unusable. Surely this could be replaced relatively easily. So disappointed as I really like the kettle - sad thing is that strip doesn't appear to serve any purpose!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Most expensive and shortest-lived kettle I've ever bought Bought June '13, limescale filter mesh disintegrated July '15 just after end of warranty, first signs of a leak from the base appeared June this year (2017). The leak is now so bad you if you leave anything in the kettle it will be sitting in a pool of water next time you use it. From reading other reviews this is a common problem. This kettle is by some margin both the most expensive and shortest-lived kettle I've owned, and hence it is the only Philips kettle I shall ever own. One to avoid.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Two Kettles Later I bought this kettle because it appeared to be robust and sturdy. Two years later, the hinges on the lid broke. I really liked so this kettle I gave it a second chance and bought another one. This kettle been working without any issues until today, the on/off switch broke, to be exact the plastic casing that surrounds the small cable with the light broke off. It is now pretty much unusable. The kettle is robust but the plastic parts are not. Very disappointed and will not buy another.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very good while it lasted but that was not long enough Dec 2017 After 3 years (out of warranty of course) water is leaking from the bottom. It still works very well but I can't be mopping up puddles from the worktop all the time. I was very pleased with it before this happened but will now be looking for a different make and model.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lid failure Oh dear this seems to be a recurring theme with this model. The hinge on the lid has broken - having read previous reviews I suspect it was because it never really fitted properly. Stylish looking kettle but it over-boils & is impossible to empty completely without standing it upside down. I've had it 4 years so out of warranty but as I'm not a tea or coffee drinker I doubt it would have lasted this long with normal, regular use.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Phillips Kettle HD4671/20 I choose this kettle based on a competitive price plus the 2 years warranty from Phillips, in addition I like the overall design and its option to boil small quantities of water. Its easy to locate onto the base and electrical contact and the kettle sits flush with the base unit. Having a metal exterior does make the kettle heavier than a plastic one, but does feel very robust and well built. My first kettle failed with a faulty on/off switch after 13 months but was replaced with a new one under the warranty..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent kettle It is 10months old now and has not been any problem at all. I'm replacing the filter but, we do live in a very hard water area. Have had to replace filters regularly on previous kettles too. I researched the type of kettle lid opening that would offer the best ease of use for my new tap, and this one won heads above all others. The wide full lid springs back at the touch of a button without having to use both hands. Its just so easy to use. Its striking design makes it stand out in the crowd. I just love my kettle.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice product ... but with a weakness! We've had this kettle 2+ years, descales easily, filter perforated but easily replaced [if a little expensive] - but now the spring on the lid has broken, looks very frail and poor design - oh Philips, can you help on this, please? We use a lot of your products, but this is a design flaw. Otherwise, low volumes as needed can be boiled easily, comfortable handle, weight balance good - and largely easy to clean - all good ... but the lid ....

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quick to boil, easy to use BUT Has been excellent for about 3 years - easy to fill, very quick to boil and visibility of level from both sides - looks smart too. But has just started leaking and is now unusable. Would have recommended 100% but now probably won't buy the same again, which is a shame because the brushed steel matched our kitchen.
