Rated 4 out of 5 by from Superb shaver for a rough beard Superb at shaving my tousled hard heavy beard without upsetting my skin - I use a KingofShaves Shave Oil to lubricate my clean face, and get a very close shave very nearly as close as with a wet shave 5 blade system razor but quicker and with essentially no risk of cutting myself and better than any other electric razor I've tried. Downsides are the inconvenience of having to replace the heads and fit a side burn trimmer to trim these and cleaning the heads needs careful concentration. I'd buy again!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Close shave but smart clean has issues with powerlead This razor (series 9000) has given me the closest shave of any electric razor which surprised me. It even gets the hairs I always miss with other razors. It's far far better than my old philishave. My only complaint is that the power lead that goes into the razor doesn't fit the the smart clean module it seems to be too small so I can't find out how good that is until I buy a lead for it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Shave too slow I read a LOT about this product before I bought and quite honestly, I'm very disappointed! It require several passes to effect a close shave and by the end the razor is getting warm irritating the skin. The design is good from the point of view of ease of use, comfort to hold, cleaning and charging but it takes much longer than my old wet shave and does not leave my kin as smooth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really close shave This is the second shaver of this series I have had, after the previous one failed just outside of its warranty period. Using in the shower with shaving foam, the closeness of the shave is excellent, although I now realise how much the old shaver head had deteriorated over 2 years.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good shaving, flimsy head I bought this on 26th November 2016 to replace a 920 rotary shaver. First the good: the shave is as close an an electric is likely to get (and better than the 920), and easy. It even gets reasonably well into the hard-to-shave bit directly under the nose. Cleaning is easy. Now the bad: the head has a very flimsy feel, and I keep thinking it is going to break. It hasn't yet, so this is a minor point. No, the big problem is one that others have mentioned: the stupid mechanism for retaining the cutting heads. The 920 had a meaty clip that held all three heads in together, with a rotating knob in the middle. This has three fiddly little rotating clips, one for each head. The issue isn't the fiddly nature (although people with dexterity problems are out of luck), but the tiny surface area of the plastic retaining lugs. After even a short amount of use, I found that even tiny pressure on the shaver caused one of the retaining clips to pop free, and that cutter then stops working properly. Each time this happens, it becomes easier to dislodge the head. I now typically have to refit the head at least three times every time I shave. And this is on a shaver that I bought less than three months ago. It's all very well saying the head last two years if the clips break after six weeks. And I will bet money that you can't buy the clips alone, but have to fork out a lot of money for a complete set of new heads. Please, please, please make a better retaining system. It doesn't even mean changing the razor, just the heads. Or sell the clips on their own . It ruins an otherwise good product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good shave. I have had many Phillips electric shavers, and this model is the best one I have had. Very easy to use, and gives a good close shave. The only problem to date is removing the head to clean the heads. This may become easier with use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rotary Convert Having used foil shavers for over 15 years I decided to give rotary a go. Most online reviews advocate the use of foil but I was curious about a rotary. This is my first rotary. For context: * I shave either every day or every other day * My stubble is medium thickness and fast growing * I have a sensitive neck My first shave was good but not great and I was concerned I’d made a mistake with this purchase. However having read other reviews here, I decided I must give it another go. I changed my technique slightly and now it is a dream. I cannot believe how close this shaver gets. I can honestly say that I feel like this is as close as a wet shave, but without the irritation. It is far quieter than the foil shavers I’d had before but achieves a shave I’d never experienced with an electric shaver. I shave wet using a cream and feel that gets the best result for me. I would say that I don’t get a perfect finish on my sideburns or tight under my nose. I’m so impressed with the performance on my jawline and neck. I can wholeheartedly recommend this shaver.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Slowest shaving experience I purchased the S9031 to upgrade my Speed XL - worst mistake ever! Thinking that the series 9000 would provide me with the best shaving experience ever I was sadly mistaken. I could shave a 3 day beard with my old faithful Speed XL in a matter of minutes but unfortunately the 9000 takes about 3 times as long, taking at least 30 passes on a small area to shave, and then there are still hairs left behind. I have tried the recommended circular motion, a vertical (or horizontal) motion and even using it wet shaving. Disappointed each time. The charger/wash station does a great job but the lack of accessories (such as a head protector) is also a downside. I have only used the trimmer once since purchasing over 6 months ago so it would be unfair to comment on this.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as good as expected My last Philips shaver was bought over thirty years ago and I feel was much better in terms of a good shave than this series 9000 shaver. It does not shave close to the nose whereas the older Phillishave had an attached trimmer for this and the sideburns. The only advantage of the new shaver is that is a lot quieter. This machine does not give a good close shave and I have tried in both wet and dry formats. I am very disappointed and feel that it is overpriced and inefficient.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best shaver yet I have had a number of electric shavers over the years and this one is without doubt the best yet. I have used foil type shavers but they don't cope with my beard growth. Rotary shavers work much better for me and who makes better rotary shavers than Philips? Nobody. My last shaver was starting to show its age so I bought this one to replace it. Dry shaving gives a perfectly acceptable shave. Using a pre-electric lotion gives an even better shave and using it wet, e.g. in the shower, with an appropriate non-foaming gel, gives a shave comparable with a blade. The tricky area under my chin is comfortable and easily tamed! In use it is very quiet (could be important in a family home when you have an early start) and glides smoothly over the skin. The charge seems to last for ages too. It is easy to clean and the clean and charge base works well. I haven't needed to replace the cartridge yet so cannot comment on their availability. I also haven't yet used the snap on trimmer so cannot comment on its effectiveness. Overall I am more than satisfied with this shaver and can recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Philips Shaver series 9000 - a step forward & back I've always been a Philishave man and just moved on to the S9211/12. Overall design doesn't chage much, however the 'shave' is a real step from my previous model, a lot closer with much less 'scrubbing'. I have 2 niggles. Unlike previous models there is no charger stand, but by far the worst is how fiddly it is to clean the head, a real pain in the backside! Yes, you can run it under a tap, but that does not get at the shaving detritus that gets trapped between the blades and the guards. It takes a goos 5-10 minutes to disassemble, clean and re-assemble the shaver head.
