Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent shaving peerformance As a 73 year old, I have been using electric shavers for well over 40 years. This one, in daily use for well over 6 weeks, ranks the VERY best of all those used, for the quality and effectiveness of its very smooth and very close shaving experience and its excellent gliding and swivelling over my face, neck and jawline: for shaving quality, a 5* plus rating. I have not 'nicked' my skin at all (which was NOT the case with previous shavers). What prevents me giving 5* overall? There is no carry pouch in which to keep the shaver (I have retained a pouch from my previous Philips shaver). The instruction/information booklet is in very small print and parts of it are difficult to understand: it is pictorial with no written instructions. The power switch is too easy to switch off accidently whilst shaving: I may be awkward, but it happens at least once on every shave. A minor re-siting would help

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not a very close shave I do not get a very close shave from this. No matter how long I stand and keep going over the same area; when I rinse the shaving gel off I still feel patches of bristle. I don't have a particularly thick beard growth and have tried to concentrate on these areas the next time I shave, but have not succeeded in getting a good close shave yet. I have also tried shaving slowly and faster and in different directions, always in circles as per the instructions, clockwise and anti-clockwise, but have also tried straight lines. I have tried it dry too but there is no difference. I would prefer to go back to wet shaving, because it is quicker and better, but as this was a present from my partner I do not want them to be offended and think that I am ungrateful for the present, I am just hoping that it will break down, just as the last one did that I was given (in about 6 months!) and was not resolved.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what it says on the box I have used Philips shavers for more years than I can remember. Although I could still use my previous razor, a Phillieshave 925 when it was plugged into the mains supply, it would not hold a charge and I was told that batteries were no longer available for this model. If I could have replaced the battery I would not have purchased a new one as I still got a good shave from it. Having researched a number of shavers on the internet I selected 5420/06. While I am still getting used to it being a different shape and action from my previous model it is giving me a satisfactory result. I have not used it in the shower or wet shaved with it yet. I find I get a good enough shave without using soap and water. I hope that the Aquatouch performs and lasts as long as my previous Philips shaver.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not The Best Shaver in the World! I was hopeful of this shaver after reading several reviews. But after using it for a while I am very disappointed with the overall performance. I am comparing this to my previous 6 year old rechargeable Philips Shaver which was excellent in fact it felt like it would cut a hedge if needed. This shaver lacks any power and seems to struggle with any more than two days growth. I seem to be going over my beard area multiple times to ensure it gets all the stubble and shaving seems to take twice as long. In fact I have taken to running a wet razor over the areas of the face that this doesn't cope with, which really defeats the object of owning this shaver. I have tried it both wet and dry and am not impressed. It also feels flimsy which makes me concerned on how long it will last. Compared to my previous Philips I cannot recommend this shaver.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Product is the best! I was a Braun 9 series customer and with all due respect, i was not happy with the performance. My beard is very thick and growing from different directions. I saw the Philips 5000 and the price was very attractive. Believe it or not, it is such a great one, light weight, great features, easy to clean and most importantly does the job very efficiently and smoothly. I am very happy and highly recommendable.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very disappointing Very disappointed. After only a few months my wife suggested I buy a new shaver as this was leaving a lot of stubble. I subsequently bought a series 9000 shaver, which is in a different league, and shows up the series 5000 dramatically. Wish I'd paid more in the first place. Do not recommend. I've been using Philips shavers for 55 years and this is the worst!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Shaving Experience After using many electric shavers with fixed shaver heads, this was my first with a 'floating', flexible shaver head. The system allows the heads to swivel and glide easily over the contours of the face, jaw line and neck to give a smooth and very close shave The flexible heads are far better than previously used fixed heads in one for whom aging (73 years) has decreased the elasticity and suppleness of the skin. The separate trimmer is great for sideburns but the removal of the shaving head, in order to replace it with the trimmer, took some getting used to. The instructions were clear: pull, not twist the shaving head BUT it required a little bit of force - perhaps because the shaver is brand new. It also needs care as it is so easy to touch the power button, switching on the shaver, when trying to remove the shaver head. The shaver handle fits very comfortably in the hand, but as noted above, without taking care, it is easy to touch and therefore unintentionally switch off the power button whilst shaving. The product is very easy to clean: just click open the shaver head and rinse the shaver under running water. I've used it in my bathroom, with the UK 2-pin socket provided and in my toilet/utility room with the 2-pin socket plugged into a 3 pin plug via a separate adaptor (NOT provided). An excellent shave, dry or wet (at the sink or in the shower). One minor disadvantage is that it cannot be used whilst plugged into the mains for charging. However, it is a powerful battery that charges up quickly. The shaver is provided with a 22 page instruction booklet but that I found to be disappointing. The booklet is small (7.5cm x 10.5 cm) and contains pictorial information only. Each page has an average of 11 pictures, most of them 2cm x 2cm. Several of them are difficult to fathom out and there remains a few that I completely fail to understand. There needs to be some written information to support the illustrations, the illustrations need to be larger in size and produced on a better quality paper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best shave experience by far I was not sure about electric shaver having used conventional razor for 35 years. I read previous reviews and researched this model against foil types, I decided on the Philips brand series 5000 wet and dry shaver. I used for about one week and not really getting perfect results, was not bad just not as good as conventional razor. Then I came across Shaving Oil, combined with my Philips shaver I can honestly say I am delighted it is the "King of Shaves". I love the wet and dry feature and the ease of cleaning the unit. I have had no problems in the few weeks I have been using the product. I would say it takes a number of attempts to get the right method of shaving but my advice is persevere it will be worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shave wet or dry Pleasently suprised at how light this shaver is. For me personally I prefer the wet shave which is very close with this shaver but the dry shave is good as well. This must be one of the easiest shavers to clean, run under the tap and wash out and leave to dry couldn't be simpler. Shaver has a 1 hr charge time, but can do a five minute fast charge to enable one full shave if in a hurry. I found the shaver smooth to use and have incurred no nicks/cuts etc in use. Has a nice clip on cover for the blades to protect them one not in use. The precission trimmer is easy to add to the shaver and works well but I personally prefer a built in trimmer. A charging dock would of been nice but does not deter from a great shaver.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Smart looking shaver I have always had Braun shavers and fancied a change. It gives a really close shave, quite difficult getting close under your nose. I have found myself turning it off by mistake, not sure that the on/off switch is in the best place. Would recommend to others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality This is an excellent product. I have avoided electric shavers for many years but was given this as a gift and thought I'd try it. I love it. I like the fact that I can use shaving soap which help with my skin and it gives a really close shave. Well done!
