Purchased the Philips GC2040-GC2049 series from my local Sainsbury store about 6 weeks ago, rather hurriedly to replace my non-heating Philips Mistral which I'd had for years and it was brilliant. Thought I was doing the right thing by replacing it with another Philips - how wrong was I. Just checked the reviews to read the same issue I'm experiencing that the sole plate is dragging across the clothes, no matter what type of fabric, even tried a cloth over the fabrics but makes no difference - so this is not a solution! I thought and hoped through time the sole plate would smooth off, however I now don't expect this to happen! Only solution is to purchase another iron, and it won't be a PHILIPS!

Nine months ago I purchased a GC2046 and I was delighted with the product. Recently however the Calc-clean failed and I was advised by Support Live-Chat that the product needed replacement. Having purchased through johnlewis.com (click and collect) I returned it to the local Waitrose store. Eventually a delightful young man sorted the problem by telphoning johnlewis.com and was told that they no longer stocked the product and would give me a refund. I accepted this as they could not give me details of a similar product. I immediately went to the Waitrose small electrical department and purchased a GC2040 as being the nearest similar model available there or so I thought. What a disappointment as it certainly does not match up with the previous model (and it was more expensive). Like others I find the sole plate extremely sticky and it is far from a joy to use. Had I not been in need of a new iron pronto I would have looked at all the reviews and discarded this model. I guess I have only myself to blame. Having noted that it was in the same range (GC2040-2049) I foolishly imagined it would have similar features, but they are certainly worse.

I have had this iron for a few moths now and experience the same problem as expressed in other reviews, with the iron not gliding easily over the fabric being ironed, it feels as though it's sticking no matter what temperature it is set at, this makes ironing extremely hard work. Was amused to see a suggested solution from the Phillips Team of putting a piece of fabric between the iron and the garment being ironed - has the person who suggested this ever done a weeks family ironing?

I have had this iron for 2 months now and have had enough. I am
going to have to buy another as it makes such hard work of the ironing. It really drags across the fabric and like other reviewers I
have tried all settings, steam/no steam. The suggestion of putting a
cloth between the garment and sole plate is just plain rediculous
and impractical especially when ironing complicated items. Very angry

I have not had this long and because I found it hard work I have had to purchase a new one, still a Philips but the difference in performance is very satisfactory.

Having previously had Philips irons I chose the one nearest to what I had been using. Unfortunately this iron does not meet the qualities of my old one. It does not glide over the clothes. I have tried using different settings and different materials but to no avail. Just so disappointed with this purchase. I have been using it for a month now but think a change will be necessary soon.

Recently bought a Phillips easy speed iron believing that Phillips were a reputable company and wanting a relatively light iron. I have been ironing for a VERY long time and actually enjoy the task but am so frustrated with this iron. It does not glide and to get a reasonable result you have to pull the iron towards you. It feels as though it is sticking to the fabric but when cold feels smooth. HELP
