Was sent the GC4928/30 iron by Philips to replace the GC4521/87 which stopped working whilst under warranty. I was not expecting to get this expensive replacement, as had been told I was getting a GC4522. It's a nice iron, nice concept, but it really does not heat up enough to get a smooth finish on cottons and linens.(I was really missing a manual thermostat!) I have to use extra steam all the time and move the iron very slowly to get an semi-acceptable finish on shirts etc. It is however, good on synthetic fabrics, and particularly good on my husband's washable tailored trousers, which I always needed to iron with a towel underneath to prevent "iron" marks on. I can iron them directly onto the material without fear of damaging the cloth or making the material shiny.
I have had to buy another iron, fortunately caught half-price offer at Sainbury's, to do the rest of my ironing. The joy of crisp shirts once again! So now I have two Philips irons on the go.
I have also been using the Philips water filter for irons, as we live in a very hard water area. Now that I will recommend very highly! Not cheap, but very effective, I have had no lime scale come out of the GC4928 on de-calcing.
