The iron makes ironing much quicker but I have used the iron since September 2013 and it has stopped working 5 times. The last time it went for repair was the end of December 2015 and it has now failed again and won't steam for long. Philips Care are excellent though and repairs are done quickly. They arranged to repair the iron even though it was out of its 2 year warranty. I wouldn't recommend this iron because it is so unreliable.

I've had this iron since 2010! it works really well and I would definitely buy another one when it decides to give up. It cuts ironing time in half and I only have to show the kids clothes a bit of steam, shake and fold and done! There's six of us in our house so does make less work. The only down side is that when it needs cleaning you end up with a lot of dirty water in the pressure tank which can come out when steaming usually on a nice clean white shirt!!! This is resolved by rinsing the tank several times with clean water which is a bit awkward in my kitchen sink as I have a small sink. A Clean me now indicator light would have been helpful. The other issue is the cable tidy falls off. Minor thing but annoying. I think later models have a lock to hold the iron onto the generator which would be great as this one hasn't got one. Overall a good product which has lasted the test of time in a large family. My mum is now using Philips after using mine and she irons professionally always previously using Tefal Steam Generators. Now she prefer the Philips one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Ironlady20 This steam generator makes ironing very easy.
I have had my machine for 2 years now and have loved its great performance and results. I do enjoy ironing, however, there is one feature that is letting it down, and that is the awful noise it is making when it heats up. I iron whilst watching TV, but the pumping noise spoils my viewing enjoyment. I have had to resort to subtitles on the TV and the noise is irritating for others in the room.
Therefore, I am reluctant to recommend it. It is a a shame.
The machine has now developed a fault, in that it keeps switching itself off, which is a real nuisance. I cannot identify what is wrong,I have cleaned it out a few times, but that does not seem to help. There is no pattern to it.

I have had a phillips steam generator iron before and was very happy with it , so decided to replace it when it broke . I am now on my fifth GC8340 , the first one leaked after a couple of weeks . The other four have stopped steaming . The calc clean light has flashed on ( even though I have cleaned it religiously ) and then won't go out . So I can't steam , amazon have been brilliant but I am now giving up on phillips . What a shame , is it a recall error ?

i am pleased in general with this product, cant find any serious faults except the continuous steam button is not in a very good place as I keep pushing it forward when ironing and suddenly find a lot of steam escaping from the iron then I realise what is happening and pull the button back to stop the steam which can be a bit dangerous! If it could be reversed might solve the problem!! Other than that I am very pleased with it but time will tell! I love the colour and how tidy it looks!
