Performance versus HQ9190/AMy previous shaver was HQ9190/A which i had for 9years untill the head frame failed this was the second time but this time i was told this the part was obsolete the rest of the shaver was in perfect order aas an engineer i felt this failure was e design fault where metal run against plastic so as i had the top of the range model before i purchased a model similar the 9000 fits the hand perfectly and the different head runs smoothly against the face the shave is quite good but not equal my old shaver i feel looking atthe heads the old shaver has 3 rows of cutters but the new one has 2 i have repaired the old shaver so i am able to have an accurate comparison olso the cutters dont come to the edge of the head frame so it cant get as close example around the nose area inotice on the head frame metal parts still run against plastic does this mean built in life span?but overall i think the 9000 is as good as you can get today

Good shaving, flimsy headI bought this on 26th November 2016 to replace a 920 rotary shaver.
First the good: the shave is as close an an electric is likely to get (and better than the 920), and easy. It even gets reasonably well into the hard-to-shave bit directly under the nose. Cleaning is easy.
Now the bad: the head has a very flimsy feel, and I keep thinking it is going to break. It hasn't yet, so this is a minor point. No, the big problem is one that others have mentioned: the stupid mechanism for retaining the cutting heads. The 920 had a meaty clip that held all three heads in together, with a rotating knob in the middle. This has three fiddly little rotating clips, one for each head. The issue isn't the fiddly nature (although people with dexterity problems are out of luck), but the tiny surface area of the plastic retaining lugs. After even a short amount of use, I found that even tiny pressure on the shaver caused one of the retaining clips to pop free, and that cutter then stops working properly. Each time this happens, it becomes easier to dislodge the head. I now typically have to refit the head at least three times every time I shave. And this is on a shaver that I bought less than three months ago. It's all very well saying the head last two years if the clips break after six weeks. And I will bet money that you can't buy the clips alone, but have to fork out a lot of money for a complete set of new heads.
Please, please, please make a better retaining system. It doesn't even mean changing the razor, just the heads. Or sell the clips on their own . It ruins an otherwise good product.

GOOD CLEAN SHAVENEVER HAD AN ELECTRIC BEFORE BUT COULD RECCOMEND TO ANY
ONE. I HAVE VERY ROUGH GROWTH BUT PHILIPS 9000 CUTS THROUGH TO LEAVE LOVELY SMOOTH SHAVE.
EASY TO HANDLE AND CLEAN WET OR DRY.
I HAVE HAD 14 SHAVES ON JUST ONE CHARGE.

Excellent shavingThe first one i had to change because there was a fault with the shaving head. All 3 heads were not rotating. So it was taking more time to shave and it wasnt a smooth finish. So i had a replacement which came soon after. The result was excellent. The only down side is if you drop the head while cleaning or dissambling thats it.Its gone.Youll need a replacement.Which is expensive. So be careful.Philips should acknowledge that and have a scheme to fix it for free or send a free replacement.since the way they design it its so fragile not rubust like the previous one.So anyway which you might find helpful is when shaving shave in a circlular rotation. Not to much presurre but quickly.Soon you should get the grasp how the shaver works the best.

Backwards stepBought this product as a replacement for a Sensotouch 3D I've had for over 6 years, which has been brilliant. I was looking for a replacement as the battery doesn't hold charge as well anymore and, as this had a similar retail price (when new), I got one of these.
Fair to say I was extremely disappointed. It was very clear from getting it out of the box that this was not as well made as your previous model. The detachable head kept falling off with any more than a light shaving motion, and there didn't seem to be any way to open up the cutter heads to get them properly clean.
I ended up sending it back after a week and going back to my old one as I disliked it so much.
I realise you're in a competitive market, but cutting costs like this isn't a good marketing strategy if you want to maintain brand loyalty.
You'd best go back to your previous standards for the next model you release Philips, otherwise I'll be switching to another manufacturer when my battery finally goes and I have to get a new shaver.

Not as good as the CoolSkin shaverI purchased my series 900 shaver directly from Philips. I have owned it for 18 months and therefore able to base my comments on experience. The series 900 is a replacement for the CoolSkin model. Of the two shavers I much prefer the CoolSkin.
In use the shaver feels solid and easily glides over the skin. The overall assembly looks and feels good and is reasonably well designed (subject to comments below). My particular gripes are: -
The shaving head is thick making shaving beneath the nose and around the mouth difficult.
Changing and cleaning the shaving blades is awkward and frustrating, especially for a person with large hands. The plastic restraining clips holding the blades in place are flimsy and do not securely fit the recesses in the shaving head. Re-fitting the plastic restraining clips is difficult, requiring patience and a gentle touch. I find I have to reattach at leas one restraining clip after each shave.
I have recently purchased new restraining clips in an attempt to improve the security of the blades in the shaving head.
I also find the blades require replacing more frequently than 2 years claimed by Philips

slow and large bezel around headsComing from HQ7415 which I simply loved and used for a long time I find the 9000 slower. The bezel around the heads is too large and this makes pretty difficult to get under your nose or close to a mole in case you have one on your face.
