Excellent straight forward set top box for Freeview HD. I chose this as it was the only Freeview HD set top box at a reasonable price and made by a company that I recognised (Philips & Pace). It is simple, light & compact & works very well 99.9% of the time, really enhancing viewing. It is simple to use with a logical remote control. Only niggles I have is an occasional signal interruption that never used to happen before it was introduced into the aerial feed to the TV & the DVD recorder, and the timer function facility is labelled as "record" (the latter is likely a firmware "feature"). 28 July 2012

good picture but poor interface Easy to set up and excellent picture quality but no ability to delete or organise tv stations.This should be a standard feature but its absence makes using the box tiresome.A software fix would resolve but as far as i know there is none planned 26 July 2012

Works well when working. Picture quality is very good. Regularly decides not to work & has to be switched off at the socket to get it to do anything. Fault on display - one LED segment does not work. 25 July 2012

All set to fulfil its potential! Struck whilst the iron was hot and bought this neat little unit in order to benefit from the various HD channels appearing on Freeview. Unfortunately, they don't actually start in my area until March 2012 but if the excellent standard definition picture quality is anything to go by I won't be disappointed. Sound is also as good as one comes to expect from Philips, either through the TV or my hifi when the broadcast warrants it. I recollect initial set up to be straightforward, as is day to day operation. The menu graphics are crisp, in my opinion, and the black background makes a nice change. My only quibble in operation is that I've never found a way to select a new current programme once in the 8 day EPG - it only caters for timer setting - so if you find something else to watch now it's back to the channel list to select it. Both unit and remote are nicely built. Although I'd personally prefer a metal cabinet, even for a small unit like this, what can we reasonably expect in these days of more and more features and sophistication for less money? So overall it's well done to Philips and their partners at Pace. I'm certainly looking forward to watching my first high def programmes next year. 12 October 2011

Very good but a rubbish interface. It plays DVD and upscales well. It recieves programsperfectly .It records on its 250 g hard diske true copies. So why does it have such a rubbish user interface? The program guide is a nightmare. 9 October 2011

Favorites easy to set up and impossible to use! Box does what it sets out to do - provides an HD Freeview picture. However, its let down by the 'Favorites' for channel listings. It allows you to create a favorite list of channels, but then has no way of using it! 30 September 2011

8-day Electronic Programme Guide

You want to know what programmes are available today and for the next 7 days so that you can avoid missing your favourite shows by planning your evenings or making pre-scheduled recordings. The data is broadcast by the programme broadcaster, and when this data is available, the product compiles the information and lists it in the TV Guide. Simply enter the menu or press the GUIDE button on the remote control to access the programme guide. The programme guide will provide programme information listings for today and the next 7 days.

Standby consumption < 1 W

The smart power management of the receiver leads to power saving in standby mode. The receiver goes to the standby mode that achieves < 1 W power consumption automatically, without your intervention.

Automatic protection for your scheduled DVD/Video recordings

You can schedule up to 8 recordings either via the Set-up menu or via the Electronic Programme Guide. At the recording start time the receiver will tune the programme to be recorded and will be locked to protect the recording, which you may have scheduled a long time ago. You will have to cancel the recording to remove the protection and recover control of your receiver.
