Residents of the Isles of Scilly will no longer have to visit the mainland for X-rays, as Cornwall & Isles of Scilly PCT recently purchased a Philips Essenta DR compact digital radiography system to replace an approximately 25-year old machine that has been out of action since October last year.
Compact and easy to use, the new equipment, which can accommodate a wide range of examinations, including chest X-rays and free exposures, can be customised to individual users’ exact requirements with manual positioning to optimise workflow.
Clive Acraman, Locality Manager at Peninsula Community Health, comments, “We went through the procurement procedure and one of the key reasons for selecting the Philips equipment was its small footprint; the room in the Community Hospital is very small and the Philips system offers us the possibility of providing digital facilities in a compact environment.”
The project itself was a team effort. Philips worked with the contractors, Modus, for the turnkey installation and CIMS for delivery. Because of its location, transportation of the new equipment was slightly more unusual. Shown here is the lifting of the the van containing the system onto the ferry, whilst the engineers flew by helicopter to the island.
