The new South Western Acute Hospital in Enniskillen purchases four Philips mobile Diagnost wDR units

July 18, 2012

The new South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland recently purchased four Philips MobileDiagnost wDR X-ray units. The mobile systems offer the same outstanding image quality of a full premium DR room, but provide a portable solution that is particularly advantageous for critical, acute areas where swift responses are essential. Perfectly designed for a busy hospital setting, the MobileDiagnost wDR helps to assure a rapid, more effective response, offering outstanding manoeuvrability, smart system design and motorised control.

Hazel Garrett, Western Trust Radiology Department Manager, South West Acute Hospital says, “We chose the Philips wDR mobile as it seemed to be the most easily manoeuvrable, intuitive system on the market, providing a high quality image, whilst also having a usable quality assurance package.”

The system, with its wireless portable detector comes with the outstanding features of Philips’ premium DigitalDiagnost, including “UNIQUE” image processing, Philips’ advanced algorithm that harmonises contrast and enhances details for exceptional imaging results. Ease-of-operation is provided with the intuitive Eleva user interface via a 17” touch-screen monitor. Advanced DoseWise features facilitate optimal dose management and a versatile wireless portable detector enables comfortable positioning.

Hazel continues, “Practical applications such as providing an image that clearly shows the position of an NG tube whilst still giving diagnostic information of the lung fields and the fact that when patient information comes across wirelessly from RIS, the mobile recognises the date of birth for young children and neonates, allowing it to automatically limit the exposure set, were some of the features we found attractive. The systems are now in use and the radiography staff find them a delight to use and their performance has lived up to our expectations”

The DigitalDiagnost wDR allows effortless positioning and fine adjustment at the tube head, and a broad variety of patient types can be accepted thanks a powerful 40kW generator. Exams can be performed quickly and easily using the wireless detector and its accessories, and fast image availability facilitates instant image checking or transmission to PACS. Data transfer is simple using wireless or LAN connection.

The new hospital which opened on the 21st June this year is the first hospital in Northern Ireland to have single en-suite rooms for every patient.
