Dry skin: no one wants it, and yet to some degree, the majority of people have it. At best, dry skin can feel tight and itchy. At worst it might look red and flaky, affecting your self-esteem and even the way you’re perceived by others.

Dry and tight skin can be caused by diet, climate, the wrong skin care products and even how you shave. That’s right. Your shaving technique could be the culprit! Overshaving can damage the skin's protective layer and increase water loss, so avoid going over the same area for too long. Outside of shaving, there are more ways to prevent your skin from becoming dry and tight.

3 steps to a happy and hydrated face

Keep it cool

It may feel nice, but extra hot water can dry out your skin by stripping it of its necessary natural oils. When you wash or cleanse your face, try using lukewarm water instead.

Moisturise

Moisturise

Even when you’ve done it right after shaving, you can reapply your moisturiser throughout the day as often as you see fit, and even more so on cold, wintery days or if you’re working in an air conditioned space. Try to use products tailored to sensitive skin and avoid harsh ingredients. And really massage that moisturiser in so that your skin fully absorbs the nutrients.

Use sunscreen

You may love the sun, but its UV rays don’t love your skin. They can have a harmful effect, causing roughness, dryness and even wrinkles. Protect yourself by using a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily – even on cloudy days and during the winter, because UV rays can affect you throughout the whole year.
