    How do I descale my Philips Grind & Brew Coffee Maker?

    It is important to descale your Philips Grind & Brew Coffee Maker regularly to ensure optimal brewing results. Below you can find detailed instructions and a video on how you can do this based on your model. 

    Descaling the coffee maker (only HD776x)

    The below descaling steps are meant only for model HD776x. You can find your model number on the bottom of your appliance or in your User Manual.
    1. Fill the water tank up to the MAX indication (10 cup) with white vinegar.
    2. Place a paper filter no. 4 (1 x 4) in the filter basket to collect the scale.
    3. Place the empty jug on the hotplate.
    4. Push the on/off button to switch on the machine.
    5. Press the strength select button and turn the knob to choose the pre-ground coffee setting.
    6. Press the centre of the knob to confirm. Then press the centre of the knob again to start the brewing process.
    7. Wait for 3 minutes until half of the vinegar solution has filled the jug. Then press the on/off button to stop the brewing process and let the solution act for at least 15 minutes.
    8. Push the on/off button to switch the coffee maker back on and press the centre of the knob again to continue the brewing process. Wait until the rest of the solution has filled the jug.
    9. Remove the paper filter.
    10. Press the on/off button to switch off the coffee maker. Empty the jug and wait 3 minutes to let the machine cool down.
    11. Fill the water tank with cold water up to the 10 cup indication and push the on/off button to switch the coffee maker back on. Press the centre of the knob to start the brewing process.
    12. Repeat steps 10-11 until the water no longer tastes or smells like vinegar for 2 to 3 more times.
    13. Clean the filter basket and the jug with hot water and some liquid soap or in the dishwasher. 
    Note: To descale the coffee maker, you can use any liquid descaler or use white household vinegar (4% acetic acid). We advise you not to use powder descalers or descaling tablets as they could damage the inside of your coffee maker.
    Descaling HD776x

    Descaling the coffee maker (only HD7740, HD7751, HD7753)

    The below descaling steps are meant only for models HD7740, HD7751 and HD7753. You can find your model number on the bottom of your appliance or in your User Manual.
    1. Open the water tank lid.
    2. Fill the water tank with 6 cups of liquid descaler or white vinegar and 6 cups of water.
    3. Place a paper filter (no. 4) in the filter basket and close the filter holder.
    4. Place the empty jug on the hotplate.
    5. Press the pre-ground coffee button to switch off the grinder and press the START/STOP button to start the brewing process.
    6. Wait until half of the vinegar-water solution has filled the jug. Press the START/STOP button to stop the brewing process and let the solution act for at least 15 minutes.
    7. Press the START/STOP button again to switch the coffee maker back on and wait until the rest of the solution has filled the jug. Press the START/STOP button once more to switch off the coffee maker.
    8. Empty the jug and throw away the paper filter.
    9. Fill the water tank with cold water up to the 12 cup indication mark and press the START/STOP button to start another brewing process. Let the coffee maker complete the entire brewing process and empty the jug.
    10. Repeat step 9 until the water no longer tastes or smells like vinegar (approximately 2-3 more times).
    11. Clean the filter basket and the jug with hot water and some liquid soap.

    Note: To descale the coffee maker, you can use any liquid descaler or use white household vinegar (4% acetic acid). We advise you not to use powder descalers or descaling tablets as they could damage the inside of your coffee maker.
