How do I clean/maintain my Philips/Saeco espresso machine?
Videos on how to maintain, clean and grease the brew group, how to clean the coffee funnel, and how to clean the different milk systems.
Cleaning the brew group
To prevent coffee grounds from clogging your espresso machine, clean and lubricate the brew group on a regular basis.
Weekly cleaning: Rinse the machine's brew group with lukewarm water
Monthly cleaning: Use the Saeco degreasing tablet CA6704 to remove oil from the machine's brew group. Step-by-step instructions can be found in the user manual
Lubricating the brew group
Lubricate the machine's brew group frequently for continued ease of movement of its mechanical parts.
Lubricate every 4 months if you brew 1-5 cups per day
Lubricate every 2 months if you brew 6-10 cups per day
Lubricate once a month if you brew more than 10 cups per day
Cleaning the coffee funnel
Clean the coffee funnel to ensure that the coffee runs through your Saeco espresso machine easily.
Weekly cleaning: Remove the machine's brew group first and then, using the handle of a spoon, clean the coffee funnel either from the top via the pre-ground coffee compartment or from below
Descaling your machine
As with all electrical appliances that use water, your Saeco espresso machine will start to build up calcium deposits or scale.
Your machine will let you know when it is time to descale. Use Saeco/Philips descaling solution CA6700 or CA6701. Step-by-step instructions can be found in the user manual.
Cleaning the milk carafe
Regularly cleaning the milk carafe, automatic milk frother and classic milk frother ensures hygienic and frothy milk foam.
Milk carafe After every use: After brewing a coffee containing milk, perform a quick clean of the milk system.
Daily: Remove the top of the milk carafe and completely rinse the parts with lukewarm water.
Weekly: 1. Fill up the milk carafe with water and push the milk frothing button to clean the milk circuits. 2. Disassemble and clean all parts of the milk carafe in lukewarm water.
Monthly: Use Saeco milk circuit cleaner CA6705 to prevent the milk circuits from clogging. Refer to the user manual for step-by-step instructions.
Cleaning the automatic and classic milk frother
Automatic milk frother Daily: Ensure that the milk circuits are clean by placing the milk tube into a jug filled with fresh water. Place an empty cup under the dispenser and press the milk frothing button. When clear water appears, stop dispensing.
