How to connect external devices to a Philips recorder?

There are several possible ways to connect external devices to your recorder, depending on the way you want to use them and the available connections of the external devices. 1) Connecting a TV. * Connect the HDMI connection of the recorder with an HDMI cable to the HDMI connection of the TV. Set the HDMI to ?auto? and the digital output to ?PCM? in the audio output settings in the system menu. * If the TV does not have an HDMI connection: connect the HDMI connection of the recorder with an HDMI to DVI cable to the DVI connection of the TV. Alternatively apply an HDMI cable and an HDMI to DVI adapter. Since DVI does not support audio you have to connect the COAX or the OPTICAL DIGITAL AUDIO OUT connection of the recorder with a corresponding audio cable to the corresponding audio IN connection of the TV. Set the HDMI to ?disable? and the digital output to ?PCM? in the audio output settings in the system menu. If the TV does not have a digital audio IN connection connect the AUDIO OUT 1 connection of the recorder with an analogue (red and white cinch) cable to the corresponding audio IN connection of the TV. Set the HDMI to ?disable? and the digital output to ?OFF? in the audio output settings in the system menu. * If the TV does not have an HDMI nor a DVI connection: connect the OUT 1 connection of the recorder with a YPbPr cable (red, green and blue cinch) to the YPbPr (or component or YUV) connection of the TV. If the TV supports progressive scan signals: set up the progressive scan feature in VIDEO OUTPUT in the SYSTEM MENU. Connect the corresponding audio connections (red and white cinch) as well. Set the HDMI to ?disable? and the digital output to ?OFF? in the audio output settings in the system menu. * If the TV does not have an HDMI nor a DVI nor a (spare) YPbPr connection: connect the EXT 1 TO TV-I/O SCART connection of the recorder with a SCART cable to a SCART connection of the TV. Refer to the user?s manual of the TV what SCART connection to use. We recommend using a SCART connection that supports RGB signals and that is an IN and OUT connection. On Philips TV?s this is the second SCART connection. * If the TV does not have an HDMI nor a DVI nor a YPbPr nor a SCART connection: connect the S-video connection of the recorder with an S-video cable to the S-video IN connection of the TV. Connect the AUDIO OUT 2 connection of the recorder with an analogue (red and white cinch) cable to the corresponding audio IN connection of the TV. Set the HDMI to ?disable? and the digital output to ?OFF? in the audio output settings in the system menu. * If the TV does not have an HDMI nor a DVI nor a YPbPr nor a SCART nor an S-video connection: connect the VIDEO (CVBS) connection of the recorder with a video cable (yellow cinch) to the video IN connection of the TV. Connect the AUDIO OUT 2 connection of the recorder with an analogue (red and white cinch) cable to the corresponding audio IN connection of the TV. Set the HDMI to ?disable? and the digital output to ?OFF? in the audio output settings in the system menu. 2) Connecting a digital Set Top Box (STB). Note: If the STB is supported by the Guide+ system connect the G-link as well. See the corresponding FAQ or refer to the user?s manual. * Connect a satellite receiver with a twin tuner to the recorder. Connect the SCART connection TO VCR/AUX of the satellite receiver with a SCART cable to the EXT 2 AUX-I/O connection of the recorder. * Connecting a satellite receiver with only 1 tuner. Connect the SCART connection TO TV of the satellite receiver with a SCART cable to the EXT 2 AUX-I/O connection of the recorder. Make sure to connect the recorder to the TV with a scart cable as well (see above). The recorder will loop through the signal from the satellite receiver to the TV. The second SCART connection of the receiver will stay empty. * Connect a cable or a terrestrial STB with a twin tuner to the recorder. > Connect the SCART connection TO VCR/AUX of the STB with a SCART cable to the EXT 2 AUX-I/O connection of the recorder. > Connect the antenna OUT connection of the STB with a coaxial antenna cable with the ANTENNA IN connection of the recorder. Connect the ANTENNA OUT/TV connection of the recorder with a coaxial antenna cable to the antenna IN connection of the TV. These antenna connections make it possible to record and watch analogue channels as well. * Connect a cable or a terrestrial STB with only one tuner. Connect the SCART connection TO TV of the STB with a SCART cable to the EXT 2 AUX-I/O connection of the recorder. Make sure to connect the recorder to the TV with a SCART cable as well (see above). The recorder will loop through the signal from the STB to the TV. The second SCART connection of the receiver will stay empty. 3) Connecting a video recorder (VCR) or a DVD player. Which connection you choose depends on the use you want to make of the connected devices. * If you have connected a Set Top Box (STB) as well: > Connect a third SCART cable from the SCART socket of the DVD player or the AV1 SCART socket of the video recorder to the second SCART socket (VCR/AUX) of the STB. The signal from the DVD player or the video recorder will be looped through to the DVD recorder. > OR (does not apply to a DVD player): Connect the SCART cable from the TO TV SCART socket of the STB with the AV2 SCART socket of the video recorder. Connect a third SCART cable from AV1 of the video recorder to EXT 2 of the DVD recorder. > OR: Connect a third SCART cable from AV 1 of the video recorder or the DVD player to a second SCART socket of the TV. * If you do not have connected a Set Top Box: Connect a second SCART cable from the SCART socket of the DVD player or from the AV1 socket of the video recorder to the second SCART socket (EXT 2) of the DVD recorder. Make sure to connect the recorder to the TV with a SCART cable as well (see above). The recorder will loop through the signal from the VCR or the DVD player to the TV. To get picture from the DVD player or the video recorder: switch the TV to the corresponding scart connection and switch the DVD recorder to EXT 2. 4) Connecting an audio receiver/amplifier/home theater set (if you do not make this connection the sound from the DVD recorder will come from the TV). * Connect the COAX or the OPTICAL DIGITAL AUDIO OUT connection of the recorder with a corresponding audio cable to the corresponding audio IN connection of the audio device. Disconnect any audio connection between the recorder and the TV. Set the HDMI to ?disable? and the digital output to ?ALL? in the audio output settings in the system menu. * Connect the AUDIO OUT 1 connection of the recorder with an analogue (red and white) cable to the corresponding IN sockets of the audio equipment. Set the HDMI to ?disable? and the digital output to ?OFF? in the audio output settings in the system menu. Notes:* * All these connections are fixed connections. They should be made from or to the sockets at the back of the DVD recorder. The connections at the front of the recorder are for temporary IN-connections, for example for connecting a video camera (Camcorder). * Every connection you make can provoke a (small) loss of picture and sound quality. Make the (chain of) connections as short as possible.
