Great TV for the price
So, after reading a lot of mixed reviews about this TV I decided to take a chance and buy one. A lot of the reviews state that the picture is poor and the contrast is awful and the colour unnatural. Well yes this is true if you use "out of the box" settings, but i find with all TVs not just Philips ones the "out the box" settings can be horrendous and fill you with that feeling of what have i done. After a little play with the settings and turning all the picture "aids" off, I can say that I as very impressed with the picture, especially when you take in to account the price point and its a 4k display too.
I have my TV linked to a home cinema amp that handles all the equipment I have so a single HDMI cable to the TV (ARC ready too), with my amp set to allow a pass through of the signal so little to no interference on the picture from the amp too. When watching a NON HD channel the TV does a good job of not exaggerating the fact its not HD and it good picture, put on a HD channel and the TV starts to show what it has to offer, the picture is crisp and vivid, blacks are black and colours look rich and natural. When watching 4k the picture is even better, still looking natural and great detail. With gaming the games look as good as you would expect.
With audio visual equipment, a lot is personal preference and what your eye and ear likes. I wouldn't disregard this TV based on what other people think, as i wouldn't recommend to buy it based on what i think, all id say is have a look and make up your own mind. Its not going to compete with a TV that cost the earth but at this price point it was the best I looked at.

I have had this TV for five days, and, despite upgrading to the latest spec. 030.070.000.000it still has the well documented fault on the HD Freeview channels where it cuts out for from one to three seconds with a black screen. I do not understand how a company like Philips could put this TV on the market without removing this problem. Unless they can assure me that a fix is imminent I will be returning it for a refund.

when you first set up this tv and scan for channels you dont find any hd channels.
searching online you find other people saying you need to update the firmware to the latest version which will enable uk hd channels and allow the wifi dongle to actually work.
In the settings of the tv there is an update section. it says put a usb stick into the tv and it will put all the details of your tv onto the stick so you can put the stick in a pc and it will auto download the correct firmware for you.
you put the stick in your pc and it does not find your firmware it just take you to philips website.
so you you search manually and find
from here you find instuctions of how to download and upgrade the firmware.
once youve done all that your good to go.
the picture is good, the sound good and i like the tv.
there is however a bug that i and many other users report where the screen will go black and you loose sound for around a second this happens at random times. i suspect a further firmware update is needed.
all this fiddling about with firmware was easy for me but i suspect many people will find if very confusing and end up returning the tv saying it is faulty

Good overall on HD, not so good on SD
Overall a very good TV, but you will need to play with the picture settings to get it right but before you do that make sure you download the update fron phillips. Without the update the hdmi do not work properly and you wont be able to use the wifi dongle.
-Sound is very good for a flat. as I am sure you know most flats sound tinny. This one doesn't. Sure its not as good as having a decent sound bar but it seems better than other flats I have heard and not tinny.
-WIFI dongle is so you can access freeview channels streamed online. There are not many and I doupt you will miss the ones there are.
-HD Upscaling. It upscales to the HD ultra but to be honest its no better than a normal full HD in my opinion.
-SD Upscaling. It does not do this well. I found some pixelation and slight bluring when watching SD channels.
Also I found when watching the HD channels it will go blank for a split second. Its like its re-tineing the channel. Its no 2 secs as some people have said, maybe 1/2 to 1 sec on mine.
Only other fault I find is the menu system, its just not very good. I am used to an LG so maybe its just me.
Netflix looks good.
Tip: Play around with the picture settings and enhacements to see what works. Some are deep in the menu settings and are a pain to find. I had to turn the colour enhancement down.

Great but glitchy
Great set but it does have it's annoying glitches. Over the air update does not work, just searches finding nothing despite there actually being an update available on the website.
After the latest firmware update installed via USB I found the tv started to have periodic blackouts where the screen will go black for a second or two while watching tv via the built in freeview. I tried reinstalling tv after update to ensure no old settings were causing glitches but issue remains. However, I mainly use tv for PS4 and 4K upscaling blu-ray player so no major biggy to me as the blackout issue does not appear to manifest on devices attached via HDMI.
The only other thing I can't seem to see make any difference at all is the supposed 400Mhz PMR which appears none existent as the motion rate looks basic even compared to other basic tv's I have seen.
Tv on/ off button located under bottom right does not always work so have to resort to using remote.
All faults appear to be software related so hopefully will get worked out with future firmware updates.
With all glitches aside the picture quality is superior to my old FHD samsung smart tv. The pixel plus really works well at defining all the small details that would usually go unseen or missed and makes my PS4 gaming more visually pleasing. To see Uncharted 4 on this tv has to be seen!

not bad for a starter 4k tv but needs to follow other brands and add HDR
All in all not a bad TV. HD picture can sometimes be a little frantic on the edges but mainly on live broadcasts. 4K content looks stunning but i feel now anyone that purchased this TV has now being left behind with the rise of HDR. A few other companies have added HDR via a software update. both high end brands and also budget brands. if Philips could add HDR to this TV it would feel a more complete package.

16 months old. broken
We got the 43 inch for a wedding gift and it was barely 16 months old. One day i came back from work and the standby button was on, was turning it on and the screen was black, but sound was on, i quickly looked up what to do is to shine a flash light onto it and i could still see something. Got a replacement board but did not work. Still the same thing. Not happy with this tv.
