Clean as a whistle!
I purchased this separately as a bit of a boys gadget and have tried it out once. Compared to the Top of the Range 3D version this version only has one setting; a full automatic clean. There is no Eco mode, which I think is a mistake but I guess it is a lower level shaver than the 3D RQ1280 and having used it for the first time today I wonder whether an ECO setting is really necessary.
The wash phase didn't take long and the overall cycle of about 2 hours is taken up with the drip drying phase. As all the energy is expended in the wash phase, which is only about 10 or so minutes, I don't think an ECO phase is required.
Having read a few negative comments about these cleaning systems, which usually revolved around a poor clean or gadget overkill, I decided to do the obvious and empty the shaving head of hairs before I started. The idea of having a mass of hair sitting in the wash bowl for weeks seems less than hygienic, and after all hygiene is the main reason I purchased the cleaner in the first place.
The whole process went very well and after 2 hours I checked the heads for dryness and noted they were still a little damp. However, I don't see this a a big deal as the heads remain wet for many more hours if allowed to dry upright in the regular shaver stand. The fact that the cleaner inverts the shaver means drying is optimised. Also drying will depend on ambient humidity and air temperature, which as I write is about 17 DegC and 80%Rh, so not ideal for fast drying.
I checked the heads for cleanliness and they are spotless so overall I am really happy with the cleaning performance.
The design is superb and build quality is very high. It looks very modern and is extremely sturdy. The single button control makes operation very simple and the slow flashing icons, which are only visible when in use, indicating low fluid, wash phase and drying phase are a nice touch. I can't really fault the gadget except to say that I expect it will collect a bit of dust over time and could do with a nice optional cover made out of a similar material to the shaver travel pouch.
