Dusk simulation Wake-up Light with gift boxI find it very hard getting up early in the morning in the winter as its so dark. The Dusk Simulation slowly lights the room, about a half an hour before the alarm wakes you up, so although you are asleep your eyes are aware the room is getting lighter. It is also a fab night night. Awesome idea.. i would recommend it to anyone who hates the dark mornings.

Nice design, few flaws but it worksI've been using the wake up light for a while now, and i find it really helps to wake me up each morning, it took about a month to start working with me.
I like the styling of the light and the clock display looks very nice and because you can control how bright it is, so its not too bright at night to keep you awake.
The FM radio works well with good reception, although i don't use it, the alarm it self is nice and loud (also adjustable) with a selection of different sounds to wake you up.
I don't like the cheap feel of the weird wheel type buttons and found it hard to use them with out pressing them again which selects the function.
When you select the snooze function the alarm volume briefly goes up to full before turning off, so as the alarm is volume is slowly ramping up, you hit snooze and scares the pants off you sometimes.
Also if you keep your mobile near the lamp you get lots of interference, even when the alarm and radio is off!! So the speaker circuit is still powered when it doesn't need to be.
I don't use the dusk function, as i don't want the radio to wake me up in the morning at a very low volume that i used the night before.
So there are a few problems with the lamp, but once you have it set how you want it, it works fine.

Don't waste your moneyThe buttons fail in under 12 months making the unit inoperable. Repeated attempts to claim under warranty from Philips were ignored. Spend your money on something else.

Changed my life!Every morning i would struggle to wake up in the dark, loud music blaring out, and i was always in a grumpy mood, moaning about dark mornings and rotten weather.
Then my husband bought me the Wake up light. What a transformation. I now wake up gently, no music but beautiful sunny light, calm and happy. Every morning is like a summers morning. My eyes are fully awake and i have no problem in getting out of bed, and I start the day refreshed.

RELAXING AND CALMING AT NIGHTI don't need to get up early in the morning very often. However I have found the dusk night setting very helpful indeed. You can set the light initially at either 1-20, then set the timer for 15, 30,60 or 90 mins. Then the light very slowly diminishes. You can also put the radio on; ie Classic FM and you can relax listening to the soft music as the light gradually fades. Then the radio switches off at exactly the same time as the light goes off. I use this feature on this lamp every night and it has had a very relaxing effect. I also use the lamp at a higher setting of 14 for reading. Because the bulb is totally contained, there isn't the usual glare which you get even with a bedside light, so I find it a more comfortable experience. One of the alarm settings is twittering birds which I found very pleasant to wake up when I've had to get up early. I must be honest in that I personally find the 3 switches a bit fiddly, but that could be just me. I'm glad I bought this light and as far as bedtime goes it has made it a whole lot more pleasurable and relaxing. I also bought recently the Philips Blue Lite for SAD which I use 2 hours a day as I have severe sleep problems. This too has been helpful and has already made small dents into my chaotic sleeping pattern and has given me a little more energy which I am very grateful for. I don't feel as wretched as I used to after a sleepless night. So obviously exposure to light does have a beneficial benefit in giving energy. By the way I am light sensitive! However, I find the lowest settings on both lamps suitable for me, so if you are light sensitive it is worth giving these products a try. Nothing ventured. Nothing gained ....

It helps me wake up!I set the alarm very easily at night (it takes a little bit of getting used to all the symbols at the bottom of the lamp) and clearly see that the alarm is set. In a morning the lamp glows and I'm not woken up by the light (although I'm sure I'm aware of it) until the alarm goes off. I wake up to the chirping of birds. The "tune" I hear is on a small repeat cycle but it is great because it wakes me up gently. I have noticed a difference in that it's not so much of a chore to get up, but I still "snooze" to the bird music.
It has a sensible footprint on my bedside unit and it is a nice shape so it fits comfortably.
It is frustrating that the lamp is not replaceable. It is a bit of a shame. But it does use half the energy of the other models

Philips Wake Up Lightit also wakes me as though it were a summer day. You set the alarm type (lots of nice relaxing sounds to choose from or a simple beep or radio), the light brightness (the maximum you want it to rise to) and then 30 mins prior to the time you want to get up the 'sun' starts to slowly rise. By the time the alarm starts to go the light is at the maximum level you set it for and the room is illuminated as if it were daylight. It's brilliant, not only do I jump out of bed when the alarm goes off as the light is bright and feels like daylight but I also feel in a much better mood. With my old wakeup method I found that the sudden alarm noise coming out of the darkness startled me awake and then I just wanted to go back to sleep once again.

Quite tricky to set upProduct looks ok, but buttons feel cheap and if you press them too hard they get stuck. Light is intuitive to use but the light itself is a real issue for myself and my husband. If you set the alarm, the light begins to come on approx 30 mins before, if you're a light sleeper, you literally wake up as soon as the light begins to come on, (defeating the option of feeling refreshed!). This happens for me, however we can't put the alarm for 30 minutes later than usual as then my husband (who sleeps more deeply) wouldn't wak up. There must be a knack to it, we just need to work it out. The sound option is good but we're struggling to tune the radio.
