Everything the Dualphone 3088 is notI have been looking at this product for months as a potential replacement for the Dualphone 3088 which has been the only real half-decent computer free, dual DECT and skype phone on the market for a number of years.
I have been putting it off because one of the reviews of this product raised concerns about interference.
However, deciding that it was reasonably likely that the issues the other user reported could have been due to any number of sources of electromagnetic interference, unrelated to the product, plus my third Dualphone handset speaker had finally died, I decided to go ahead with the purchase.
I have been using this product for about 2 months but it very quickly became apparent that this phone addresses all of the things that were wrong with the Dualphone 3088. It has a ring-tone that goes 'ring-ring' for one. It is loud enough to hear outside the room of use. The loudspeaker is crisp and clear for hands free use. It reliably rings for Skype-In calls. You can lock the keypad (good for stopping your kiddies phoning your skype contacts on the otherside of the world at their 3am).
The baseunit/answerphone is good looking and now I have switched off my skype answerphone in preference for this. This provides the benefit of having the same answerphone for DECT and skype calls. You can choose how long the phone rings before the answerphone kicks in (those who use Skype In will know the frustration of only having 3-4 rings before the Skype answerphone takes the call and you have sprinted across the room to just miss the call.
I can't think of any reason why not to recommend this product.

disappointingI bought this phone to save on call charges and mainly use it for skype out calls to UK landlines. For skype calls it does reasonable well.
It is not so good at landline calls to mobiles. I've experienced feedback on a number of occasions when calling from my landline to a mobile.
The speaker phone is not as loud as our old BT Seimens phones, and not as clear.
Also, on a number of occasions when I've tried making a landline call it has come up engaged, even though the person at the other end swears they weren't engaged. We tried a load of other numbers and they all appeared engaged too, so it must have been the phone.
We've also experienced a problem with the ringer and all tones not working, so the only way we knew there was a call coming in was when the phone lit up. We resolved this by powering it off and starting again. This has happened a few times to both phones (we have two of these VOIP phones)
Finally, whilst it looks quite attractive, the gloss finish gets very greesy and you find yourself polishing it off each time you use it.
If there were other skype dual phones on the market, I'd try these first. I only know of one other, and it's been around for some time, so I thought this latest phone would be better.

Phillips phone with Skype (VOIP8551B/05)My reasons for buying this particular phone were simple. Most of the others didn’t offer both PSTN and Skype and the ones that did I was not keen on. Also I needed to be able to answer calls without being at the computer. On to the phone itself:
I like the phone, works great in most cases. The display works well though would have been nice to have added IM support. The phone itself is strong and sturdy (I have dropped it a few times). On loud speaker its great, sounds good enough for a Skype phone as these in my experience all have issues. Unfortunately the internal speaker on maximum volume was for me unusable as I could not hear the other party very well. (The call quality was good on my end but some people I called said it was not great on their end though others said it was crystal clear, either way it’s usable)
I wanted a new phone and one that could replace my PSTN even though I don't really use this now (got to many junk calls, and have a Skype-in number). Skype works great on the phone, saves me trying to get the headset on, turn on my computer monitors etc. I now don’t use the landline anymore unless for 0845/cell/mobile phone numbers and use Skype 100%. My setup is underneath to give you an idea.
I would recommend this phone for anyone needing a Skype phone but the internal speaker was useless for me, so loud speaker only. I have not really used the landline side much over the last few months but it does work well from what I can tell.
I run my computer 24/7 and use a wireless headset currently. Phillips VOIP8551B/05 Skype phone connected 24/7. I upload and download lots of data over my network but this has almost no effect on the phone/call quality.
Hope this helps someone, very good phone for Skype but the internal speaker I would recommend checking out if you want to use it, oh it looks good too.

Don't buy this phone if outside UK or IrelandDisappointed with this purchase for two reasons. One, this phone doesn't seem able to make landline calls outside the UK or Ireland, but this is not made clear in the product literature. I live in Qatar and I bought this phone to replace the previous Philips model when that phone went wrong. With the previous model I could make local calls in Qatar no problem, but this model won't let me. It either prefixes local numbers with 0044 or just doesn't recognise them at all. So the reason for buying a dual Skype/landline phone has been negated. Two, it is not possible to edit contact numbers which is really stupid. If a contact changes their number you have to delete them from your contact list and put in a new entry. How ridiculous is that! It's possible to change a contact name but how often are you likely to want to do that? Wish my old phone had not given up the ghost as this has not been a good replacement.

Rather disapppointingI waited patiently for this product to be launched in the UK as I wished to replace my Dualphone 3088. Philips on-line shop delivered it this week and it was simple to install.
Skype quality is excellent, but if the VOIP855 base station is connected to my BT Voyager 2000 wireless router, a background buzz is induced on the landline (and any other phone connected to the landline) - irrespective of whether the router is switched on or off and/or is connected to the Internet.
Philips replaced my first VOIP8551B/05 very efficiently, but unfortunately the fault persists with the replacement. This is now being investigated further by the 'new release' team in Holland.
A pity, because it's a nice-looking system with a quality look/feel. But being decorative is no substitute for being fit for purpose.
So, only 1 star until Philips cures the audio interference issue.......

Great phone.Had this for just over a week, got it as I needed a second line for business, this and a Skype number was by far the cheapest option for me. Takes 10-15 mins to set up with your Skype account, loads of room to put in all those number you use on your normal phone line as well, that can be easilly seen on the backlit colour display, plenty of ringtones (20) to choose from. Shame you can't download your own into it like a mobile. Different ringtones for Skype or Landline. Good range on the handset, gives a warning if it's going out of range too! Skype is crystal clear and not dropped even after several hours of use already. Oh did I mention the looks and top build quality, very sleek, buttons feel good and if you misplace the phone a button on the base unit sets it off ringing so you can find it. Easy to use, well I'll have to look in those instructions sometime. Compared to the other Skype phones I've seen/used, this is by far the best ever.

Difficult to set up, worked so so for about a year, now unusableI agree with all the criticisms and can add three more. 1) I first bought (and was never reimbursed!) a model which could not work in the UK without any indication from Philips that this could happen; 2) when I finally purchased a model which was compatible with the UK, the remote access to the answerphone never worked; and 3) over the year I've had this phone it has begun to crackle more and more, to such an extent that now the phone is unusable because of background crackle and I am seeking a replacement (which will certainly not be another Philips!)

Best skype phone on the market!A little expensive, but you get what you pay for. Don't even bother looking at anything else...owned a number of skype phones and this one beats all hands down.
