Philips integrates Radiology and Cardiology IT platforms as part of a multi-million 10-year contract in Ireland

Contract sees the first installation of Philips DoseWise 9.0 radiation management solution in EMEA

Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), Blackrock Clinic, Dublin and Healthcare Software Solutions (HSS) today announced a 10-year agreement that will provide an innovative networked IT platform to support faster and more informed clinical decision making across radiology and cardiology investigations. The platform will facilitate anytime-anywhere access to multi-modality patient imaging data sets.

Key Philips provisions within the agreement are the IntelliSpace ECG management system for the collection and management of cardiology investigation data and reports - such as pacemaker insertion, exercise stress tests and ambulatory device monitors - and the IntelliSpace Portal R9.0 which provides a suite of the latest imaging management tools, including programmes for reduced image analysis timings across complex visualisation procedures. Philips’ DoseWise 9.0 multi-vendor, web-based software solution will also be installed, providing advanced radiation exposure data collection, measurement, analysis and reporting to ensure the highest levels of patient and clinician safety.

Clinical usage of Philips IntelliSpace Portal for combined Cardiac MR and CT has seen a reduction in image analysis time by 30%* and by combining imaging investigation tools within a remotely accessible networked system, workflow efficiencies can be realised, helping to streamline the multi-disciplinary team decision making process.

HSS, a market leading Radiology Information System (RIS) software vendor links seamlessly with Philips IntelliSpace PACS, to provide enhanced reporting and specialist workflow capabilities.  The partnership creates a best of breed medical imaging solution to enhance the user experience.

“Bringing extensive imaging tools and clinical information points together within a single system while making resources securely available off-site is a powerful next-step in patient-centric care,” says John Hayes, Head of IT at Blackrock Clinic Dublin. “With tools such as an improved appointment system for more patient choice and reduced consultant travel time, we hope to see care pathway efficiencies as part of a cost effective, future-proof, solution that will help bring care closer to the patient while unlocking clinician resource by simplifying and standardising certain processes.”

Within the agreement Philips Healthcare UKI will be responsible for the clinician training, equipment maintenance and upgrades to ensure that future Philips innovations are available to the clinic throughout the term of the contract.

“Philips is committed to making the provision of healthcare effective and intuitive,” states Elaine Murphy, Sales & Solutions Manager, Philips Healthcare IT. “By facilitating off-site access to data with the potential for networked collaboration across clinics, economic benefits are realised while clinicians get access to the latest technology, helping to them to improve patient care and facilitate integration. UK findings within the Future Health Index, a recent report commissioned by Philips, revealed that 88% of Health Care Professionals believe integration of the health system will make the quality of care better1.”

“Good clinical collaboration and communication is a cornerstone to providing the best holistic care, and information systems provide the basis of these collaborations,” comments Graham Ridgway CEO, Healthcare Software Solution. “With industry leading solutions, we’re dedicated to ensuring clinicians have the tools they need to assess detailed information quickly and conclusively, and this announcement provides an exciting development for integrated services built around patient care.”

This partnership intends to offer connected, secure and intelligent data exchange for clinicians to best serve their patients. By connecting imaging technologies and IT solutions, workflow processes can be enhanced to support improved patient care. Philips ensures all data is secure by complying with the latest data security and patient privacy demands, without compromising accessibility or the investment, while adaptive intelligent solutions facilitate collaboration by automating workflow and providing advanced visualisation and analytics.

Completion of equipment and software instillation and co-ordination is due November 2017.
