The suite is equipped with the Philips Azurion 7 system, replacing outdated equipment that was frequently breaking down and causing issues for staff. With the new technology in place, clinicians can now perform a full range of routine and complex interventional procedures with ease and confidence. This is enabling faster, less invasive and highly precise vascular treatment, dramatically improving the patient experience.

The project was delivered through a unique revenue-based financing model - developed by Philips in partnership with its global financial solutions partner, DLL - allowing the Trust to adopt this advanced technology without requiring upfront capital. The innovative pay-per-use approach provides financial flexibility while maximising return on investment, helping the Trust to address financial constraints and continue to modernise its healthcare infrastructure.

The future of healthcare in the UK will be shaped by our collective willingness to embrace innovation - not only in technology but in the ways we fund and deliver care. Our partnership with Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust will bring this state-of-the-art Interventional Radiology suite to life and is a strong example of how new financing models and long-term partnerships can help futureproof NHS services, delivering better care, to more people.

- Mark Leftwich, Managing Director, Philips UK & Ireland

Designed in close collaboration with Philips’ hospital design experts and frontline clinical teams, the new suite features a modern, clinically led room layout that enhances workflow, supports staff, improves clinical confidence and maximises space efficiency.

The Philips Azurion 7 is an EcoDesigned product, delivering measurable environmental benefits in energy use, materials, and packaging. At Broomfield Hospital, a 13-year contract with life-cycle management is in place, ensuring the system remains technologically up to date, operationally secure, and aligned with evolving clinical demands – extending its lifecycle by two to four years.

We were pleased to work with the Philips team to help us upgrade our Interventional Radiology theatre at Broomfield Hospital. Staff are now able to use the latest technology which in turn benefits patients. This has come in a unique pay per use contract, avoiding the need to have capital investment at a time when NHS finances are constrained.

- James Currell, Acting Divisional Director, Clinical and Support Services Division at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust

This forward-thinking collaboration between Philips and Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust exemplifies how innovation, sustainability, and smart financing can come together to transform healthcare delivery. By reimagining how advanced technology is accessed and implemented, the new Interventional Radiology Suite at Broomfield Hospital sets a new benchmark for patient-centred care, operational efficiency, and environmental responsibility - paving the way for a more resilient and future-ready NHS.
