As part of the hospital’s commitment to working with industry to tackle major heart and lung conditions, the two organisations have agreed to team up on a number of projects that have the potential to transform patient care.
Stephen Posey, Chief Executive of Royal Papworth Hospital, and Neil Mesher, Chief Executive of Philips UK and Ireland, signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus this month (June) which paves the way for the collaboration.
Among the projects already identified, the two organisations will be looking at speeding up heart attack diagnosis and treatment, and improving lung cancer screening.
Stephen Posey said; “This agreement brings together specialist clinicians from the UK’s leading heart and lung centre and experts from one of the world’s biggest technology companies to work on a range of treatment innovations. It is a truly exciting prospect.
History meets the future
Since opening its doors a century ago this year, Royal Papworth Hospital has had a rich history of ‘world firsts’ and pioneering treatment. Our brand new hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus – which includes five state-of-the-art theatres, five cath labs and two hybrid theatres – will help us to continue delivering the treatments of tomorrow to the patients of today.”
Neil Mesher said; “This is a truly exciting agreement that will help us find new approaches to tackling some of the big health challenges we face today. Philips is honoured to be a healthtech strategic partner to Royal Papworth and we’re eager to play our part in exploring how we can take improved patient care to new levels.”
