The problem

The time it takes to complete manual patient health audits is preventing nurses from doing what they are trained to do - caring for patients. There is currently increasing pressure from hospital management to comply with audits - and the number of audits required is still increasing.

Besides these manual audits, nurse managers face many other challenges, including:

Compliance | Constant pressure for data | Visibility | Esculating costs, reduced budget | Staff welfare and training | Quality of care | Patient Safety | Delivering a consitency of care

All of this adds up to a reduction in available time a nurse manager has to do their day job properly, leading to (sometimes fatal) errors which are then compounded by the inability to trace who/why/when these errors occurred.

The solution

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way patient observations could automatically calculate the EWS/patient deterioration and report this automatically to the senior nurse on duty, highlighting immediately if intervention is required. If the situation is severe, the solution would automatically notify the outreach/specialist team to come and support my team...

Philips general ward solutions is the only fully automated and completely configurable solution for early warning scoring (EWS) on the general ward today.

The innovative Solution from Philips not only helps prevent critical events before they happen, but addresses other challenges that a manual system can not;

  • Automation / Auditing - all in compliance with guidelines
  • Dependency – managing staff and ward capacity accordingly
  • 24/7 Consistency – Safe Service delivery, giving you the confidence to leave
  • Patient Care – Automatic alerting derived from data consistency helping reduce adverse events

Philips general
ward solutions

Philips general ward solutions, the next generation of observation, escalation and automation of EWS from the world’s number 1 in patient monitoring.

Integrating the latest smart monitoring technology from Philips, all NEWS observations are measured accurately and the EWS score is calculated directly on the monitor at the bedside. The score is then seamlessly uploaded to a central station and PAS, and is visible in the general ward, in ITU, in outreach, or on a mobile device around the hospital, allowing the patient’s care team to respond and intervene earlier to deterioration.

By removing manual processes, our solution simplifies workflow at the bedside, removes the risk of human error, improves compliance with EWS and provides instant access to 100% accurate data and reports to support necessary auditing.
