Like any other electric shaver or trimmer, your Philips OneBlade needs maintenance if you want to keep perfecting your facial and body hair for years to come. And it doesn’t have to be difficult: you can extend your OneBlade’s lifespan and performance with some simple tips and tricks. So read on to learn how to clean the Philips OneBlade.

Why should I know how to clean my shaver?

It’s always worth knowing how to clean your razor, no matter the model. There are three main reasons: you want it to be hygienic, you want it to work effectively, and you want it to last.

The hygiene point is an obvious one and the most common reason why you might want to know how to clean a razor. If you’re putting anything against your skin regularly, you'll want it to be clean. This is especially important if you’re prone to nicks and cuts when shaving.

Then there’s the matter of effectiveness. If you’re familiar with manual shaving, you’ll probably already know how a buildup of hair can make your razor less effective. If your razor is clogged with hairs that you’ve already removed, it’ll have trouble cleanly cutting the hairs in your skin. A similar principal applies to electric shavers and trimmers like the OneBlade, so knowing how to get hair out of your razor will really help.

With a multifunctional product like the OneBlade (which is so much more than just a razor), you’ll want to care for it properly to make sure all the functions keep working smoothly, whether you’re trimming, edging or shaving. By removing hair and other debris after every shave, you can help to make sure your OneBlade remains in top condition, ready for the next use.

Finally, neglecting to maintain your OneBlade or razor can cause problems further down the line. Knowing how to clean an electric razor can make a real difference in how long it will last. With regular OneBlade cleaning, you can both extend the time between blade replacements and help to make sure your OneBlade itself remains in working order for years to come.

How to clean the Philips OneBlade, step by step

The below steps are OneBlade-specific, so don’t take them as general ‘how to clean my shaver’ advice if you’re not using a OneBlade. The OneBlade is waterproof, so it’s safe to use it for wet shaving and can easily be cleaned with water, but that isn't the case for every electric shaver out there. Don’t worry if you’re more used to how to clean a razor with manual blades. The method for how to clean the OneBlade is a simple one, and here it is:

    1. If your OneBlade has a charging port cover, make sure it’s firmly closed to prevent water from getting into the port.
    2. Take off the attachments, blow off any hair and rinse them under lukewarm water.
    3. Don’t bang the OneBlade against the sink or use tweezers. Just blow any excess hair off the blade.
    4. Turn the OneBlade on and rinse the head and handle under lukewarm water. Don’t use soap, which can wear out the anti-friction coating.
    5. Turn the OneBlade off again.
    6. Leave your OneBlade and its attachments to air dry separately. Drying the handle with a towel is fine, but don’t try to dry the blade with towels or tissues. While your OneBlade is still wet, don’t put it in the cupboard or plug it in to charge.

Just follow these instructions for how to clean the OneBlade after each shave, and you’re sorted.

Don’t try to clean your OneBlade when it’s plugged in. Water and mains electricity are a dangerous mix, which is why your OneBlade is designed to work only when it’s unplugged. For the same reason, save your OneBlade cleaning for a time it’s not charging, and make sure it’s clean and dry before you plug it in.

Proper cleaning will help your blades stay at their best for as long as possible, but eventually, they'll wear down and need to be replaced.

The blade wear indicator will also let you know when it’s time for a new blade. This is a green patch that slowly develops in the centre of the blade with use. If it’s pretty much completely green, it’s time for a new blade.

Fortunately, this is an easy problem to sort out. Get hold of some OneBlade replacement blades make the replacement like this:

    1. Remove the used blade. If there’s a blade release switch, hold both sides of the blade and push the switch towards the blade to release it. If there’s no switch, just press in on both sides of the blade and pull it gently off the handle.
    2. Take the new blade and, pressing in on both sides of the blade, push it into the handle until it clicks.
