Normally the antenna should be vertical for best reception - However in some countries in areas that are hard to reach - broadcasters have set up small low powered transmitters to fill in reception areas. This may happen, for example, in valleys. These secondary transmitters send the signal in a way that is may be received better if the antenna is tilted to approx. 90 degrees. In addition, even under “normal conditions” the antenna may receive better if tilted.
