How to improve the picture quality on Philips player?

    Published on 2017-08-24
    • Optimize the connection between the DVD player and the TV/ See the FAQ: How can I connect several external devices to my DVD player? * Verify the cable between the TV and the DVD player is properly connected to the connectors of both devices * Verify the TV system of the DVD disc and the system the TV supports. If the disc is an NTSC disc and the TV does not support NTSC the picture will be in black and white. The default system is PAL. * When you connect the DVD player with a component cable and the TV supports progressive scan, activate progressive scan on both devices: 1. Make sure your TV supports progressive scan. 2. Press SYSTEM MENU. The general setup menu appears. 3. Select VIDEO SETUP and press OK. The video setup page appears. 4. Select PROGRESSIVE and press cursor button right. 5. Select ON and press OK. The picture disappears or gets blurred. 6. Press SYSTEM MENU to exit the menu. 7. Set the TV to progressive scan. * Set the DVD player picture settings according to your preferences. 1. Press SYSTEM MENU. The general menu appears. 2. Select VIDEO SETUP and press OK. The video setup page appears. 3. Select SMART PICTURE and press cursor button right. 4. Select the setting of your choice and press OK. 5. Press SYSTEM MENU to exit the menu. * Note that DivX video is compressed to MPEG4 format. The picture quality will not be as good as the quality of MPEG2 compressed material as on DVD-video discs because of the stronger compression. * Optimise the picture quality of the TV. See the user?s manual of the TV. * Fingerprints and dust on the disc can cause poor picture quality and sound distortion. Wipe the disc in straight lines from the center to the edge using a soft cloth. Do not user strong solvents such as alcohol, benzine, thinner, commercially available cleaners, or anti-static spray intended for older vinyl records.
