Needs a software update
This box has a large hard-drive capacity and is quicker to start than YouView. It’s also easy to use. The recording and sound quality are fine. The drawbacks are largely software related. So there is a good chance Phillips will fix them. Recording is a bit hit and miss. Occasionally it fails to record a programme with no warning or error message. The only media player currently available is BBC iPlayer. It works, though is a little less reliable than YouView. The search function (either on iPlayer or on the television guide) doesn’t work well. But it is easy to run through the schedules and select a programme to record. I use a surround sound system. If you switch the box on before the sound system you get no sound, though switching channels sorts the problem. The media playback feature works well. So if you know how to download programmes in MP4 format you can watch them in HD. Programme playback is okay, though not as easy as on YouView. One quirk is that the you need to go in and out of the list of recorded programmes twice to get it to respond properly. And fast-forward doesn’t work on MP4 files run through the USB stick. Currently (January 2016) I would recommend getting a YouView box instead of this. But all of the issues could be fixed with software updates. So this product could be one of the best in the future.

Piece of rubbish.
Completely unreliable, records what it wants, if it wants to bother at all. Sometimes the scheduled recording is still there, it just doesn't start (which prevents it from turning off into eco mode), sometimes it deletes it completely, despite being there 2 minutes before the programme starts. Series link very often doesn't include the current weeks episode. If the programme is repeated later on the same day, it will change which one it wants to record, even if that makes it clash with other scheduled recordings. Today it deleted all of my scheduled recordings. Couple of small practical issues, like no page up/page down function in the library, as it holds 1000gb it's annoying to get to anything that's in the middle of your list. You can't record radio programmes. EPG usually has empty gaps. Premium rate help line was very unhelpful.

Software is full of bugs!
I wish I had read the reviews before being persuaded to buy this product by Currys! The software keeps locking up, won't record at times, freezes, skips over recordings in the library. The only way out is to disconnect the power to it, leave it for a while before powering up again. I have to do this several times a day and it is infuriating!
