Dakar 2020: Xavier pushed himself beyond his limits

Xavier de Soultrait was forced to abandon the race in 2020 due to an injury sustained during the race. “During the third stage of the race, I fell off my bike at a speed of 10 km/h. As I used my hand to brace for the impact, I ended up cutting the median nerve deeply. I tried to stop the bleeding with an adhesive tape and pushed even harder to complete the stage. The doctors at Dakar had to sew my hand up. I kept going on the fourth stage, but the pain was too intense. Unfortunately, I was no longer in condition to reach my dream and goal which was winning the rally”.

For greater safety and visibility during the race, Xavier de Soultrait and his team will use the latest in headlight-bulb technology.

“Every morning, we ride the bikes for up to three hours in the dark. The roads are often small with stray animals and multiple obstacles. In these situations, bright front lighting is essential and I know I can rely on my Lumileds headlights” – Xavier de Soultrait.
