It is important to descale your SENSEO® Viva Café regularly to ensure great-tasting coffee at the right temperature.
Once the Calc light is lit, it is time to descale your SENSEO® Viva Café. View our instructional video or the steps below to descale your SENSEO® Viva Café.
Pour half a bottle of liquid descaler into the empty water tank
Fill the water tank with fresh water
Place the water tank back onto your SENSEO® Viva Café
Press the power button to turn on your SENSEO® Viva Café
Place the 1-cup pod holder with a used coffee pod inside it into the coffee machine. Close the lid and make sure it is properly locked
Place an empty jug under the coffee spout to collect the descaling mixture
Press the 1-cup and 2-cup button simultaneously to start the first descaling cycle
The descaling solution will come out in intervals
The power button will flash rapidly to indicate that the first descaling cycle has finished
The first descaling cycle is now finished. Continue with the second descaling cycle.
Note: Never interrupt the descaling process.
Pour the other half of the bottle into the water tank
Fill the water tank with fresh water and place the water tank back onto your SENSEO® Viva Café
Replace the 1-cup pod holder with the 2-cup pod holder and place another used coffee pod. Close the lid and make sure it is properly locked
Place the empty jug under the coffee spout
Press the 1-cup and 2-cup button simultaneously to start the second descaling cycle
The descaling solution will come out in intervals
The power button will flash rapidly to indicate that the second descaling cycle has finished
All descaling cycles are now finished. Start rinsing the appliance to remove any descaling solution.
Replace the 2-cup pod holder with an empty 1-cup pod holder. Close the lid and make sure it is properly locked
Rinse the water tank under the tap
Fill the water tank with fresh water
Place an empty jug under the coffee spout
Press the 1-cup and 2-cup button simultaneously to start the first rinsing cycle
The solution will come out in intervals
The power button will flash rapidly to indicate that the first rinsing cycle has finished
Rinse the water tank under the tap
Fill the water tank with fresh water
Place an empty jug under the coffee spout
Press the 1-cup and 2-cup button simultaneously to start the second rinsing cycle
The solution will come out in intervals
Once the complete descaling and rinsing cycles have ended the appliance will switch itself off to indicate that the descaling cycle has finished
You have now successfully completed the descaling procedure. Your SENSEO® Viva Café is now ready to brew that perfect cup of coffee again.
