Digital tuning clock radio

The Philips DAB clock radio was very easy to set up and I was able to do it without looking at the user manual. The design is stylish and compact. And the sound quality from the stereo speakers is excellent. Very good volumn range. An attractive, and well designed product.

Indeed, this product is very stylish and produces a good quality of sound. The two alarms are very useful, as is the fact that the product comes with a 3.5mm jack cable for MP3 connection. The buttons can be slightly unresponsive at times, but the superb quality of sound does make up for this. The ability to turn of the back-light without disabling any other functions (i.e. alarm) is very good, allowing a dark environment to sleep. Overall, a very good DAB Digital Radio.

Great radio reception in FM as well as you would expect with DAB. I will probably not use the device as an alarm but simply as a bedside clock and radio. Setting up pre set stations and switching from radio use to a clock and back is a lot easier than the instructions make out. Perhaps a re-write of the manuals would be an idea for an otherwise excellent product

Whilst the Mirror Finish Display looks brilliant in the pictures and during the first 30 seconds of ownership, it quickly turns into a nightmare as it shows up any marks or finger prints and attracts so much visible dust all the time. Even with a very soft dry cloth it is almost impossible not to scratch the display when trying to remove these things. I'm very disappointed as I am someone who likes things to look good and stay nice for as long as possible. I would have thought that Philips would have been better off designing it with some sort of protective film over the top if it is this easy to scratch.

Screen display no longer works after 14 months. It is complicated to program, but I did like it (I like the fact you could turn the display totally off). Should have lasted longer though.

What initially attracted me was the styling and its compact dimensions and, of course, the Philips brand. Setting it up is fairly straightforward and it captures stations quickly. Buttons can be slightly confusing, but not having a separate on/off button from the function selector is a big mistake. I really only listen to speech and I was disappointed that it can sound quite muffled and indistinct at low volume levels and since it has no treble or bass controls it can't be adjusted.

I bought this for it's digital radio facility and for the fact that the display can be turned off at night. In these respects the product does what I want it to. However it is unnessessarily complicated to program.

Looks great, but ultimately doesn't do the job it's designed for. The display is barely visible meaning that you have to be in complete darkness to operate the thing and you can't view the time/date/radio station settings/display during daylight. The combining of function buttons (i.e. power & source) only adds to the poor usability.

This looked beautiful in the shop and it sounded good when I listened to the radio, but once I took it home and started to use it, I realised that the beauty was only skin deep. Combining power and source buttons? Combining snooze and dim buttons? Storing / cycling presets not easy either. Biggest problem is that if I don't tune into the radio for a week or two, it appears to randomly forget what time it is. It fixes itself as soon as it gets a DAB channel up, but I've missed a few wake up calls. Suspect this is due to having a weak DAB signal, but by the time I noticed this, I'd lost the receipt. Sadly, due to the usability / reliability, I can't even relegate this to the spare room...
