Ok so let me start this review by saying I hate ironing. In fact, I’m not really a fan of any domestic chores, but ironing is by far the worst. My Partner can testify for this!
So, as you can tell, anything that can make ironing easier and a more enjoyable chore is a winner in my eyes. This is where the Philips PerfectCare Elite Steam Generator comes in!
What a beautiful iron- and there’s a sentence I never thought I’d write!
Described as the ‘World’s Most Powerful Iron’, the iron is revelation, leaving my clothes looking beautiful and removing all creases in record time. I whizzed through a large load of family clothes in no time at all.
Its 500g steam boost and 7.5 bar pressure means that it so powerful you never have to iron the same area more than once.
Easy ironing Probably the first time I’ve ever smiled whilst ironing – ever!!
It is expensive, but if you iron large loads regularly I would definitely say it is worth the investment!
The iron comes with OptimalTEMP technology. I had never used an iron with this feature before, but it allows you to iron everything from everyday jeans to your finest silk dress without setting the temperature – no burns guaranteed.
I tested this out on my partners old lace top (I wasn’t quite prepared to use a piece of my clothing) and it really does work! I’ve destroyed so many delicate pieces of clothing in the past by ironing them at too high a heat! This again justifies its higher retail price – think of the amount of money I’ll save not ruining clothes with iron marks!
The iron itself is quite large with a massive 1.8l detachable water tank, but it is also incredibly light making it easy to use and ensuring their is no stress on the muscles in your wrist.
Other nifty features include:
Philips’ exclusive and ideally positioned Easy De-Calc Plus function provides the ideal way to get rid of limescale and extend the lifetime of your steam generator iron.
By using the ECO mode with a reduced amount of steam, you can save energy without compromising on the ironing results.
For faster ironing, switch to Turbo mode, which generates more steam.
Your steam generator iron is designed to use tap water. While ironing, when the water tank runs out of water, you can easily refill it without having to wait or turn off your appliance.
Although I’m still not a fan of ironing, using the Philips PerfectCare Elite Steam Generator iron, means I can get through the job as quickly as possible and with pretty perfect results.
I refuse to wear crumpled clothes so if I have to iron, this is my tool of choice.
What a power iron! Top marks Philips!

Ironing is the most hated chore in our household! But not anymore, there's a want to do the ironing now.
It's easy to set up and use, the water tank is detachable, so fill up straight from the tap, switch on and wait a couple of minutes to warm up.
The iron itself has a button catch to keep it locked onto the base when not in use.
You don't have to adjust any heat settings, so you can iron clothes in any order. You can put the iron on its base or face down on the ironing board in between items.
It has a steam boost for extra creased items, but to be honest I've found the standard steam perfectly adequate so far.
It comes with an ironing glove so you can iron vertically, which is very handy.
This is an amazing piece of kit, it makes ironing a doddle, it steams out creases so quickly and easily, the iron plate itself is so lightweight, it's halved the time we spend ironing.
I don't know how I managed before acquiring this iron, it's made one boring long and tedious chore easy and actually enjoyable!
My only grumble is the cord storage, you push the cord in each side of the base, and I fond it difficult to get in, and looks rather untidy. Also if you have to store the iron high up, do not leave water in the tank... I ended up having a cold shower as the water poured out when I tilted it to lift!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Danni281 Exellect product but wouldn't buy this myself.
To look at, the design of this iron is very slick and it doesn't look cheap or cheaply made. In other words, it looks like a very high quality iron.
The directions are very easy to follow, using both pictures and words.
When taking out the box, the iron is quite light to carry.
I thought it was quite confusing undoing the power cord. It is also even more confusing and harder to get back in the way it came out. This resulted in me having to leave the cord hang free after use. The cord is very long so can plug it in to plug sockets that are quite far away.
The Base is very big and bulky and there isn't much room for it other than on the ironing board itself, which then left very little room for actually ironing the clothes.
The water tank it very easy to remove and fill.
The Base is very heavy when the water tank is filled but that's probably my own fault because I should have moved it before I filled it with water.
The iron heats up very quickly. Quicker than the time given (2 minutes).
It has a good indication of when it is ready to use (handle flashes and makes a beeping sound).
The lock I thought was a great idea, especially with young children around. It's very easy to undo and lock again.
I found that the cord connected to the iron and the Base was very rigede and hard so made it a little bit more difficult to move the iron around and also bumped my leg a few times as well.
I was ironing black jeans at the time and thought the iron was very easy to manoeuvre and it glides right over the jeans, although I had to go over them quite a few times to get rid of the creases. The iron itself is quite light to hold and pickup. Alot of steam is released when needed but can be quite scary if you're not expecting it. Also the steam get in your face which I didn't find very appealing.
At this point in time, I think it takes just as long to use my older iron. It also left iron marks on my black jeans. This iron isn't really effective with out the use of the steam constantly.
As a steamer, the handle is quite heavy to hold for a continuous amount of time. There also isn't enough steam coming from it to be highly effective as a hand held steamer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by markymark1975uk Most powerful iron I have ever used
having a large family we tend to iron 3 to 4 times a week for a duration of about 1 to 2 hours each time, since using the philips elite silence steam generator im glad to say we have reduced that time by about one third if not by half.
this iron has superior power to any other iron i have used and has an endless amount of steam which never fades like in other irons i have used.
its super fast and gives professional looking results even if you are a novice ironer.
ergonomic and lightweight its a joy to use and i would recommend this iron to anyone.
dont be put of by price, i have personally saved 3 to 4 hours a week so i would say this iron pays you back in under 2 months !!!
you will not be dissapointed with this iron and thats a fact.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MB10 Best iron I have used
This is a fantastic iron, it really cuts down on the time I spent ironing, there is no need to change temperature for different fabrics, it does it automatically, because the water is kept in a separate tank from the iron itself, the iron is really light and glides across all fabrics, even the works overalls that all other irons have stuck to. It also allows you to iron vertically, ideal for taking creases out of curtains etc. I like how you can keep hold of a button and you get a continuous jet of steam. This is a larger iron than what I was used to, but it doesn't take up too much room to store when not in use.

Im really impressed by this steam iron, it's made ironing much easier and quicker. As a family of five I iron daîly which can be some what of a chore but this has made my ironing experience much more bareable!
The water tank is easily removeable and tap water can be used. The actual iron itself is incredibly light and glides perfectly. It's really comfortable to hold. The steam pressure and volume is brilliant.
It's Fairly quiet for a steam generator too.
The base is so easy to descale, simply unscrew the plug and let the water and scale run out into a container.
The power cord is a really good length.
The iron can be secured very simply to the base.
Ironing a mixed load is simple- cotton followed by silk and back to cotton without adjusting anything. I definitely get through my ironing much more quickly now. The iron glides superbly and is easy to point into corners.
Overall I absolutely love it!
