The Philips Smart Feeder can use three type-D batteries as a backup during power outages. For continuous operation, keep it plugged in. On batteries, the feeder can run for about 350 days with one serving per day. However, in battery mode, only the next scheduled meal (e.g. morning or evening) will be dispensed. Features like motion detection and the camera will not work on battery power.
